recommended opus bitrate / opusenc setting for general?
...ch is the recommended bitrate and further settings of opusenc (like complexity and framesize) for general music (e.g. including classical music) to achieve more or less transparency? Talking about CD level audio (16bit; 44,1 kHz; Stereo) The only source I could find regarding that was: http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Opus#Music_encoding_quality But that seems to imply that transparency is achieved with 256bit... and "close to transparency" wit 128bit... and then I wonder why one would need Opus, because I thought that's about the same for AAC/MP3/Vorbis. Cheers, Chris. ------...

[PATCH] PPC/Altivec removal
...lly this > weekend. I have several patches, but they interfere with this ppc/altivec patch. (one of them changes lpc.h,another changes stream_decoder.c, etc). So I have to wait for your decision on this patch. BTW, one of them noticeably increases encoding speed of 16-bit files: <http://www.hydrogenaud.io/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=101082&view=findpost&p=870431> (version A is the current code).

[PATCH] New apodization functions
...edictor. My theory is that this helps because short transients introduce noise into the predictor. The predictor becomes very good at prediciting one part of the signal, instead of mediocre for the whole block. For more information on the whole window-thing, it might be a good idea to see this hydrogenaudio-post by Josh himself: http://www.hydrogenaud.io/forums/index.php?showtopic=44229 One thing to note is that this patch only affects the encoder stage that evaluates various possible predictors, not the actual coding stage. This patch only add the new windows to the codebase. My follow-up e-m...

R128gain & metaflac
As far as I know, R128 as ReplayGain isn't really considered final yet (see http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=ReplayGain_2.0_specification for example), so it would probably be a bit early to update this in the FLAC source. op 16-06-14 10:15, Olav Sunde schreef: > I mention metaflac because there are a few shell scripts that > use it to write RG tags in a flac music library on...

Multithreaded encoding?
...200% speed (Raspberry PI 3B+). It saturates a single CPU core, but the other three are idle. Is out there any project to add multithreading options to "opusenc", or something in that line? Looking around, I have found this: https://github.com/enzo1982/superfast#superfast-codecs https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=114598.0 <https://github.com/enzo1982/superfast/blob/master/doc/SuperFast%20Codecs.pdf> Is it out there any other multithreaded "opusenc" drop in replacement?. Any plan for future "opusenc" improvement in this area? Thanks. -- Jesús Cea Avión...

Transcode lossy to further reduced lossy to stream over Icecast
...oad * Set icecast up to do just that (this I know how to do) So I'm asking advice for the transcoding. What's likely to give the best results with already lossy sources, and at small bitrates? According to these documents: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Encode/HighQualityAudio https://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Transcoding#Lossy-to-lossy_transcoding it basically comes down to Fraunhofer Institute's FDK AAC, but the articles are dated. Opus is supposed to be good but I always have the impression it doesn't deal well with loud/grungy/fuzzy/guitarry music, esp. at low bitrates. Wh...

[PATCH] Updating the ReplayGain documentation
In this topic on Hydrogen Audio(http://www.hydrogenaud.io/forums/index.php?showtopic=105586) someone asked a question about the sample rates that FLAC supports for ReplayGain. The outcome was that the current documentation of MetaFLAC is outdated since Commit http://git.xiph.org/?p=flac.git;a=commit;h=0554a4aee6966bc5b251364753ef85de72dfab19 because a...

R128gain & metaflac
Hi has anyone looked at adding R128gain code to metaflac so we can select to use this calculation for RP tags rather than replay gain? ...decoding (it seems that nothing uses this tag). R128 defines reference level differently, so this tag makes little sense for it. IMHO it's better not to write this tag when (meta)flac uses R128 algorithm. (David Robinson, the author of ReplayGain, thinks that such tags are useless: http://www.hydrogenaud.io/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=67823&view=findpost&p=603622)

FLAC 1.2.1b versus 1.3.0: file size differences at level -8 (best)?
I thought this had been answered before, but cannot find confirmation: if I recall correctly there's hardly any advantage (if any) to re-encoding from 1.2.1b to 1.3.0 at the highest compression level (8/best), right? --Martin
