Assignment operators (was [R] modifying a vector)
Bill Venables expected howls of protest about deprecation of underscore for
assign. Here's my one-and-only howl on this point:
(1) I don't like <- as an assignment operator, because it creates an
ambiguity with comparisons: I can write "x+1", "x-1", "x<1" but not "x<-1".
However, I guess it's a bit much to expect the entire R/S

If you like that, I'm willing to discuss it further, and/or commit it
and let the howling tell if it's a keeper or not. ;^)

echo canceller
hi,
haven't got the chance to sit down and look into it.
from what I read in the list, double talk detection is
in the pipeline... :D. Just 2 quick questions:
i) does this canceller handle wideband for speex wideband?
ii) does it handle feedback or howling?
Lastly, a newbie question for echo cancellation:
is there a convenient test to ensure that the input and
output buffers obtained from the audio IO
are aligned? and also, does anyone have any rough
idea what is the tolerated misalignment of the input and
output buffers, assuming constant misalign...

Question about BUILTIN\Administrators and BUILTIN\Users nested groups in 3.3.3
Sorry about the dumb question:
Are the "BUILTIN\Administrators" and "BUILTIN\Users" local (nested) groups
supposed to be populated with DOMAINNAME\Domain Administrators and
DOMAINNAME\Domain Users (respectively) by default? If I download the Redhat
Samba package, they are populated. Not so with a compiled version.
I've had a helluva time populating BUILTIN\Administrators

Echo Cancelation Algorithm Details and Tuning
...ponents ?
- Non-Linear Processor (NLP)
- Automatic Microphone Gain Control (AGC)
- Transducer Equalization (EQ)
- Dynamic Range Compression (DRC)
- Ambient Noise Reduction (ANR)
- Bi-directional Comfort Noise Generator (CNG)
- Double-talk/Coherence/Howling detection
My question is whether the algorithm supports all the above functionalities
? Looking at speex_preprocess.h file, I find there are controls available
for AGC, Noise Suppression, Echo Suppression during single talk and double
talk but not clear if there are more options available.

general advice sought
I'd like to hear the thoughts of list members on which type of storage
method seems "best" for inboxes and for folders.
The filesystem is GFS2 and for various reasons I can't change it.
Inboxes - currently Mbox format. Some users have upwards of 5000
messages in there (the largest is about 18k entries) and thanks to
attachments some inboxes are 40-200Mb with a few sitting at
