aix permission horrors!
I have installed samba 2.0.0 on our AIX 4.1 machine. It appears to be working fine in domain security mode. Except for one thing: No matter what the read permissions in Unix are, ANY user can read EVERY file in a share. Write permission is working properly. What the heck is going on here? I have the Unix permssions set to a-rwx (000) and it STILL lets everyone read all the files in the

Windows XP clients
My UPS (an APC 620, FWIW) is attached to my Sun workstation, and monitored by NUT. Everything works a treat and I'm delighted with it (in direct contrast to the useless APC software it came with). But ... I'd like to put my wife's XP machine on the UPS, and have the Sun shut it down, when appropriate. I see there is an XP port of NUT, so ... before I start down the path of horror that

integral with error:non-finite function value
Hi guys, I'm trying to use the the integral function to estimate the area under a PDF and a crossing curve. first I stated the function with several vectors in it: fn=function(a,b,F,mu,alpha,xi) { x<-vector() fs<-function(x) { c <- (mu+(alpha*(1-(1-F)^xi)/xi)) tmp <- (1 + (xi * (x - mu))/alpha) ((as.numeric(tmp > 0) * (tmp^(-1/xi - 1) *

Sample still has horrorible distortions... anyone know why?
Hi, I am subscribed to this list, and have learned a lot just from the discussions i see although i don't reply to the msgs, simply coz i'm no big deal programmer. I feel, though, that as i'm really optimistic about vorbis and want it to grow and start to have more and more people using it, i feel that i should warn you about a bug the encoder have (i'm sure monty receives loads

Little list of horrors.
Hi all, I was investigating the SMB signing problems between Win2k clients and Windows XP servers and thought I'd take a look to see if there were any hotfix patches for Win2k that were post service pack 2. I discovered this list.... : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com/support/ServicePacks/Windows/2000/Win2000_Post-SP2_Hotfixes.asp of *amazing*

NEWS: SIP Firmware Available for Cisco 7970
I've just recieved a copy of the new SIP firmware for the Cisco 7970, those of you with Cisco accounts may wish to try it (shock horror I'm sticking with SCCP). This coincides with the release of v8 firmware for all Cisco phones (and for those of you running Sergio's chan_sccp v8 works fine) The firmware is now also (and for the 7970 SIP, only) distributed in ".cop" files,

Greets, Thank you to all the CentOS team and supporters. :-) Just wondering though... Any 4.7 update issues or horror stories yet? Also, anyone that has upstream support and previously updated, any issues for Internet facing, or other, production machines ? - rh

C6 compatible wireless printers?
Hi, Any success stories with C6 and wireless printers? Or maybe horror stories and what products to avoid? I'm looking at some HPs on amazon right now, some quite cheap, ~ ?50, not bad. Ideally they should have easy to refill cartridges. Thanks.

Canon PIXMA mg5420 or HP Photo Smart 7520
In need of a new printer, having done a bit or research, and considering either the Canon PIXMA mg5420 or the HP Photo Smart 7520. There are Linux drivers for the Photosmart which are supposed to handle both the printer and the scanner. But in my research I haven't found (yet) anyone who's gotten the scanner to work with Linux on the Photosmart, let alone the sheet feeder for it.

Debian Package Behavior Suggestion
Hello, I just did a quick ''apt-get update'' then ''apt-get install shorewall'' from the debian unstable tree. This was on the www.shorewall.net mirror server. And, to my horror, after upgrading the package, it automatically restarted shorewall! Of course I have done this before, but I absent-mindedly just went through the usual procedure for debian upgrades

SSO with IIS?
I have a customer that I''m developing a solution for on RoR. They have IIS today and use Sharepoint for their intranet. Is it possible to have some kind of single sign-on between these systems? So when a user is logged in to ther Sharepoint she will also be logged in to my rails-app? We haven''t decided yet on what to deploy rails on so I''m open to suggestions... If we

...mpile to GCC" backend in favor of David Terei's new LLVM backend. They're still planning for their C-- backend to be the primary backend for native code generation, but by bundling LLVM with the GHC sources, they'll be able to remove a whole passle of Perl and GCC-related crawling horrors. They're hoping to get some performance improvements out of the migration. Let us all now give a warm welcome to our new Haskell comrades! — j h woodyatt <jhw at conjury.org> http://jhw.vox.com/

anyone using DBMail?
I am currently using Cyrus IMAPd, and been using it for a long time, the main reason being that I want an IMAP server with nice server-side filtering, which Cyrus provides via Sieve. Given that Sieve is integrated with Squirrelmail, all is good. Or is it? Cyrus IMAPd is powerful, but it's a complete mess to upgrade, either when upgrading the software per se, or when upgrading the whole

Create multiple domains from single saved domain state (is UUID/name fixed?)
...efore I restore.. Any ideas? Could I do this with snapshots? I suspect not since I see virDomainSnapshotRedefinePrep() calling virDomainDefCheckABIStability which raises the error here: https://fossies.org/dox/libvirt-1.3.3/domain__conf_8c_source.html#l17991 Out of curiosity does anyone know what horrors might befall me if I were to remove the lines protecting against name and UUID changes? Then compile my own libvirt... The comment in the code says name can be changed, but I'm guessing I would have to change the UUID too. Does anyone see how that would create issues? I'm not sure how libvi...

Printer recommendations
Since my old Epson C86 has finally managed to clog up the print heads, I'm in the market for a replacement. I'd like to know what the people on this list are using for printers that are currently available, since we are using versions of CUPS and foomatic that are frozen, and any other issues or "gotchas" that you are aware of. For the replacement printer, I'm considering a

Distorted Title Bar in Wine
Hi, I installed Wine 0.9.30 using Automatix 2 onto Xubuntu Edgy primarily so I could run IE 5-6 for testing purposes. I then installed IEs4Linux. It all works fine, although I still feel a sense of horror to see IE on my linux desktop, but the title bars are all messed up for both winecfg and IE. The link below shows a screenshot of the effect: http://people.aapt.net.au/~adjlstrong/wine.png
