-b option on rsync with HFS support
OS X 10.4.6 (BSD) I was using the 'standard' versions (i.e. non-HFS supporting) of rsync with the backup -b option so that I could do nightly incrementals. This seemed to be running fine. Changes to existing backed up files got copied to the appropriate path(s) on the target. BUDIR=myDirectoryName time /usr/local/bin/rsync -a -b --suffix=# --backup-dir=$BUD...

Apple hfs mounting help. OT maybe?
...hing like .Apple01 and some index files. (sorry this was done yesterday, I couldn't leave the network configured and in place to connect to the N5400, and don't remember exactly what it showed). So I assume this is the way the Mac wrote the filesystem. When I try to mount it as an Apple hfs, I get a message that the fs type is not supported by this kernel. Might anyone have a clue as to how I can get this mounted to show me the real data the way it looks on the Mac. All I really need to do is to change the mod recursively so that older yearly folders are read only. The web interf...

Making a NAS/HFS server
...ort of gone. I was going to try and back up the data to a new CentOS 5.1 box I had until the new Thecus arrived, but ran into the problem of Mac resource forks not being copied when I mounted the Thecus as a CIFS system. Is there a commonly used procedure to do the above task of copying a Mac (HFS, I think) system to a linux box from the linux box? This sort of runs into another project we have in the works where we want to make the equivalent of a SAN/NAS type storage system. We want to have a cluster of Centos boxes running for shared storage, and have the ability to add to it seamless...

Feature request: Sync Mac OS resource forks and metadata on Mac OS X
I have a feature request for rsync. I tried posting it to the FAQ-o-matic, but that system didn't seem to be accepting new questions. I hope this is an okay list for the request--apologies if it's misdirected. Mac OS X provides support for the Mac file system resource forks and mac specific metadata (e.g., creator and file type). Most Unix applications ignore this information, but it
