text rather than html help in Windows
I would like to use Rterm in Windows XP and have the help files appear in
text format in the terminal rather than in the html popup window. For
example, I would like to enter help(lm) and get the text to appear in the
terminal window. Can anyone suggest a way to do this? Thanks and Happy Hew
Year.
Tom

A questiong about replacing my failing drive
...I have 3 partitions on it, the /, /boot/ and my game servers (this is also
the drive the bootloader is on).
Will this proceedure work ok to replace it with the minimum of
downtime/reinstalling
A> Make bootable floppy
B> Start in single user mode
C> Create same partition structure on hew drive
D> Move all files from old partitions to new partitions
E> Switch drives
F> Boot off floppy, mount, reinstall grub and boot manager on new drive
G> Profit!
Any hangups or snags doing it this way?
Thanks,

Links opening in a new window?
Hi all,
This is a Noob question but I couldn't find anything on the syntax
page about making a link that opens in a hew window (and two years of
email archives was too much).
For eg. with "This is an [example link](http://example.com/)" where do
I put target="_blank" or its equivalent so it opens in a new page?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thx
Tony

Samba4 on Ubuntu 18.04 Howto setup ADDC with bind9_DLZ (extra part 4.8.1 samba)
...something that's supposed to be simply a behind-the-scenes, don't-screw-it-up-just-do-it-simply-easily-and-reliably, systemd seems to have become the center of the universe. [Pretty soon the OS will be there to keep systemd working, instead of the other way-round.]
All that said, I tend to hew to Louis' take - modify the stock install as minimally as possible. [I think I find fewer things down the road that want to bite me in the night, if I do it that way...]
Still, I would like Louis' take.

[libnbd PATCH 2/4] copy: rename <purpose>_OPTION to OPT_<purpose>
Rename <purpose>_OPTION to OPT_<purpose> for two reasons:
- it is more idiomatic for enum constants to have the same prefix than for
them to have the same suffix,
- we hew away three characters (length-wise) from each option name, which
happens to reduce the max width of "copy/main.c" to 79 characters.

Unknown keyword in config file
I'm trying to boot Fedora Core 5 Test 3 from either CD or DVD,
(which uses ISOLINUX), and I get the error messages:
Unknown keyword in config file
Could not find kernel image: linux
boot:
There are at least two other people in the world with the same
problem. Unfortunately, all of the rest of the Fedora test
community doesn't seem to have a problem with it, so its not
a high profile

Using LDAP, no PDC/BDC, for multiple samba servers
Hi
Is it possible to use single LDAP server and multiple samba servers?
The problem I'm having now is
Each server thinks their host name is their LDAP domain name, or
sambaDomainName, and
complain the user's SID is different so can't authenticate.
How do I make samba servers use one domain name and SID?
LDAP domain name is DOMSMB
dn: sambaDomainName=DOMSMB,dc=my-domain,dc=com

[libnbd PATCH 0/4] copy: wrap source code at 80 characters
Bugzilla: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2172516
I figured I'd work on the libnbd line wrapping in shorter waves than how
long the nbdkit patch series was.

Missing Windows binary for R-2.15RC?
Hi,
The page
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/rtest.html
has a link to:
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/R-2.15.0rc-win.exe
However, clicking on that link gives a 404 "Object not found' error.
FYI.

update config.guess and config.sub to support aarch64
Hello,
would it be possible to update config.sub and config.guess to the latest versions (or at least version
from automake-1.13.1) in order to support new architectures based on the ARM 64 bit CPU?
Patch: http://plautrba.fedorapeople.org/openssh/openssh-latest-config.sub-config.guess.patch

Some basic questions about getting the best performance for database usage
...All of this is currently held in a Postgresql database with the largest tables divided into segments to speed up performance. This all runs on a linux machine with 4 GB of RAM and 4 10K SCSI disks in HW raid 10. The complete database is about 70 Gb in size, and growing every day.
We will soon need hew hardware, and are also reviewing software needs.
Besides a lot more RAM (16 or 32GB), the new machine will also get a much lager disk array. We don''t need the size, but we do need the IO it can generate. And what we also need is it beeing able to scale. When needs grow, it should be poss...

Samba4 on Ubuntu 18.04 Howto setup ADDC with bind9_DLZ (extra part 4.8.1 samba)
So, I'm curious about the contrast between modifying netplan vs simply disabling systemd.resolved
Is there some advantage to the gyrations to make netplan work, vs simply disabling resolved and manually defining the IP and DNS server?
[I'm not complaining, I'm thankful for all the options - just wanting to have the best handle possible on the reasoning behind one method vs the other.]

How to boot a compressed CD-ROM image from disk
I'd like to take advantage of the small, compressed Linux systems
such as Knoppix or BeatrIX, but I can't have a CD rom on my system.
(A project's marketing requirement.). So I figure I could use something
like SYSLINUX or ISOLINUX to do it for me, but there is some magic
in the process (the sequence of booting) that eludes me.
