CentOS and Atheros
What's the easiest path to having my Atheros wireless cards supported, particularly in C5? In the past, I've chosen to download source and build my own, but that's become a little tiresome. At one point, OpenSUSE was the easy option, but since 10.1 it's dropped madwifi. -- Cheers John -- spambait 1aaaaaaa at coco.merseine.nu Z1aaaaaaa at coco.merseine.nu Please do not

ipw3945 wireless not working
This is a new Centos 5.1 install on a HP nc2400 (that use to run XP). Completely clean install; blew away the XP partitions... After applying all the updates, and configuring for the rpmforge repo, I used yumex to install dkms and the dkms-ipw3945, ipw3945-firmware, and ipw3945d rpms. lsmod|grep ipw shows: ipw3945 180391 1 ieeee80211 33417 1 ipw3945 and dmesg)grep

Keep lossing wireless - ipw3945
Sunday I updated my kernel to 128.1.16 (I had to reboot so it was time to update). No problems with wireless in my home. Monday I started traveling to IEEE 802 plenary, and I have lost my wireless numerous times needing to reboot. The symptom is the radio light goes off. Back before the kernel update, this would happen sometimes at home while on battery, and I would just press the

Added new guide OCS Inventory NG to wiki
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, everyone. I added a new guide for installing and configuring the OCS Inventory NG server/client system on CentOS 5.x. Also, there's some brief explanations for integrating it into GLPI. I added it under non CentOS applications, since I think it fits in best there. Regards, Max - -- # find . "*imbecile" -exec sed -ie

Diskless Clients
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi guys, Someone on the list today was asking about diskless clients. I have a guide written for doing diskless clients across NFS and PXE. I noticed there was nothing existing on the wiki for such a thing. I wanted to ask before I created the main category "Diskless Clients" under the How To page. Any objections to that there? Or suggest

rsnapshot page and wiki format converter
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi guys, I noticed you have a backup section on the wiki. I wrote a quick guide to installing and and using rsnapshot on CentOS 5.1. If interested, check it out here on my website. If you'd create a page, I'd be more than happy to post it. <http://www.maxsworld.org/index.php/how-tos/rsnapshot-backups> This leads me to the next

Nagios docs
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, Ralph. I'm almost done verifying and updating the Nagios guide works with both CentOS 4.x and 5. Currently, the page is labeled "Nagios on CentOS 4.x." I wanted to make sure the title reflects. The new guide will work for both 4.x and 5 together, so would it be a problem to rename that page to "Nagios on CentOS 4.x/5.x"

Visualization and desktop page
Hi, all. How appropriate would a visualization and desktop "prettification" page be? I know like myself a lot of people use CentOS not only as their server, but also as their main desktop system. This page could be for used for adding desktop magic programs, tips, tricks, and visualizations. I was going to write a guide for installing and using Conky, if so.

Latest BackupPC release in CentOS testing repo
BackupPC released 3.2.0 as a stable version a few weeks ago. The most current release is 3.1.0 in the testing repository. Are there any plans that this will be updated to 3.2.0 in the repo some time down the road? Also, will the BackupPC package be moved out of testing and into extras ever? Or are there reasons behind this that are more complicated, making it not "stable" to be in

OT: Tux500 Linux Marketing Program
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I found this on my Newsforge newsletter this morning. A group has put together a marketing program attempting to get some cash together for Linux to get a sponsorship sticker on an Indy 500 car. CentOS is on the list of folks who have contributed. Only $25 so far. http://tux500.com/stats.php - Contributor list I thought it was a neat idea, plus it

Duplicate Mails
Hi, due to some idiot not being able to configure his Exchange server correctly, this list has been swamped by loads of duplicate mails. There were still several hundreds of mails awaiting delivery to this list. I have removed all of those from the mail queue - so if you are missing a mail you have sent, please resubmit it, it probably was lost while I cleaned the queue as I had no way of

poppler-utils missing pdftoppm
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I found a thread here about this problem, but no answer or resolution as to whether it's a bug, or even something that can be fixed. <http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=12114&forum=38> I'm trying to get PDF support under DocMGR to work correctly and it's complaining about pdftoppm being missing. Added BackupPC Guide
Hi, everyone. I wrote a guide for installing and configuring BackupPC on a CentOS host using rsync as the primary backup method. As best as one can proof read their own writing, I did so, but please read through and feel free to correct and change any typos. <http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/BackupPC> Regards, Max

I know that some of you from the list have asked me in the past for a copy of my CentOS based Linux Firewall document. There are also those that have no clue what I am talking about. This is for the former group... There is a new version of my document out. It's changed quite a bit since the last person asked me for it. Multiple version documentation
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi guys, How are we to handle multiple versions of How-Tos? Meaning, I have document foo written for CentOS 4.x, but update it to reflect CentOS 5.x. Please remove my wiki account
Wiki Admins, I will no longer be participating in the CentOS wiki. I've removed my name from any of the pages that were submitted by me, and welcome others to do so with the pages as they wish. I'd like to be removed from the EditGroup, as well as have my account deleted. Username: MaxHetrick Unfortunately, attitudes about what the wiki should be and currently are, and my own attitude about it, aren't aligned. The CentOS wiki should be a welcomed place for user contributed documentation, but as time goes on it seems as though that's not what many key people envision or want...
