lustre on debian
Since in Linux we are mostly a debian shop we''d like to stick with debian for our calculation nodes if possible. So I wanted to ask the lustre 2.2 instructions for Debian are they more or less relevant to lustre 2.4/2.5 or am I going headlong into a tall brick wall. Also are newer clients backwards compatible with older server software? I am currently just setting up a demo environment and don''t know what version of lustre the vendor will install on the full fledged version yet (though I hope they''ll go with 2.4/2.5)...

Anyone using fuse and/or sshfs under Centos 4.4?
Hi A search of google failed to show any prebuilt rpms for sshfs and fuse. I do see that fuse support is in 2.6.14 kernel which isn't a whole lot of help. Before I dive headlong into this has anyone successfully built fuse/sshfs against Centos 4.4. If so would you share your experience? Thanks Daveh

Samba without TCP/IP
For several reasons (security, resources, and simplicity) is there a project underway to make Samba run without TCP/IP. The FAQ says that there is a desire to make this project work, and that it is stalled. I for one would like to hear from anyone working on this before I dive headlong myself into trying to get Samba to work without TCP/IP. --john

sip show registry shows nothing
...s) 4800/4800 192.168.113.201 D N 5060 OK (8 ms) The server can ping and traceroute to voip.co.uk and I am getting a bit lost for things to try. My final attempt has been to install the latest 1.2 from svn and so I am now running SVN-branch-1.2-r68732. Before I rush headlong into debug files, are there any specific modules or settings that I can check to see that the server really is trying to register the trunk? Happy to post logs etc. here if someone lets me know what is best to show. Thanks Nigel Kendrick

Kerberos 5 and OpenSSH 2.5.2p2
Are there any patches to enable Krb5 for OpenSSH? I'm trying to get a proof of concept done so I can eventually roll Krb5 and OpenSSH out as our primary AA infrastructure and I'm having a hard time of it. Can someone point me to info to help? -- Austin Gonyou Systems Architect Coremetrics, Inc. Phone: 512-796-9023 email: austin at coremetrics.com

[LLVMdev] Stack branching for non-preemptive threading
...a label, and then branch to that later? If so, perhaps I could bypass llvm's intrinsic call/ret altogether and just implement my own calling convention? -Brandyn p.s., please cc me directly in any replies as I am only polling the list on the web site for the moment until I decide to jump in headlong. -- ---------- brandyn at sifter.org ------- http://www.sifter.org/~brandyn ---------- A word saved by one clever writer is a word saved a million readers.

proper way to ensure atomic model changes
Hi! Say we have a rails active-record-based model called "instance" which can have different states - STOPPED, RUNNING, STARTING_UP, SHUTTING_DOWN, etc... There is a method #start which changes the instance state to STARTING_UP only if it is STOPPED. def start if self.state == STOPPED self.state = STARTING_UP self.save ... end end As you understand if we have multiple

Help setting 2 Offices in US and India
I am new to Asterisk and VoIP. I have been given the task of setting up a telephone network in US and India. When customers call the US location, the calls should route to India (using VoIP) and handle there. The Indian location should be able to call Us numbers using the Voip to save money. The solution should be flexible enough to support initial of 5 simultaneous calls with the option to

About NAS versus Samba
Hi there, Has anyone tried to configure a NAS server to authenticate users using a Samba PDC, or even a Samba4 DC (AD-compatible) or an IPA server? I'm evaluating replacing some Linux file server for a NAS product, but all them make me nervous when the vendor talks about "Active Directory support" and nothing else. In theory, many NASes are Linux boxes running samba, so there

Complex Routing/Firewalling/Bridging question
I''m being cast headlong into unfamiliar waters here, and being desperate for some air, thought I''d come here for some help. :) Anyway, my employer is going through some whiplash-inducing growth spurts, and as a result, the simple "Internet T-1 -> Linux Firewall/NAT -> LAN" setup just isn'&...

A proper way to modify battery.charge.low persistently
...called the Ellipse ECO 650, nowadays under the Eaton brand (MGE no more). I did some research ahead of my purchase and picked a UPS with support in "nut" (and not having a noisy transformer or a fan). In Debian 11, I have installed the nut-client and the nut-server and pretty much went headlong into the config files in /etc/nut, where the config isn't very complicated. - you need to load the driver for your UPS (config in ups.conf, mine uses the usbhid-ups) - in my case nut.conf only says mode=standalone - upsd.conf can in fact stay empty - I have two user entries in upsd.use...

Overview ======== In the five years since the first edition of this classic book was published, Internet use has exploded.
