Debian Lenny - Samba 3.2.5 + OpenLDAP (slapd) 2.4.11
I have a serous problem.
I have for some time now tried to get an SAMBA based Domain Controller
working.
I have tried with OpenLDAP and tdbsam as backend, but I get the same
error every time.
I wood prefer to use LDAP as my backend.
I have read tons of how-to SAMBA + LDAP, but non of the seams to work
for my, is there someone that maybe can see what I have done rung in
my config.?

SAN arrays with NVRAM cache : ZIL and zfs_nocacheflush
...x.php/ZFS_Evil_Tuning_Guide . They clearly suggest to disable cache flush http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/ZFS_Evil_Tuning_Guide#FLUSH .
It seems to be the only serious article on the net about this subject.
Could someone here state on this tuning suggestion ?
My cu is running a HDS SAN array with Oracle on ZFS, I''d like to be clear in my brain.

OT: headless fanless silent 2 HDs micro server/pc...
Hey,
A bit out of topic but I am looking for a micro server/pc if anyone knows a descent one...
I found many nice NAS but I would like to have full access to the OS (install CentOS, etc).
Dream one would be
- Very quiet (fanless) since it will sit in my bedroom.
- Headless
- Small.
- 2/3 HDs (2.5" are ok) for RAID1 (hardware RAID would be nice, and with BBC even more).- 1 or 2 GB NICs
- USB3 or ESATA would be nice...
- Price would not be much of a problem (maybe no more than $1000 though).
Random thoughts:
- a shuttle PC with 2 HDs and a real RAID card (if it fits inside), but m...

striping with ZFS and SAN(AMS500 HDS)

I only want to do strip on 2 luns(25GB each) that cames from different controllers and deffrent fiber channel port(dual HBA).

real SATA RAID
...i
Last week I had a lengthy thread in which someone indicated the my SIL
card is a FRAID (don't know if F stands for the F word or Fake, though it
doesn't really matter). I want to replace the controller with a controller
that Linux will see the RAID1 group as a single HD and not multiple HDs as
it happens with the SIL controller. Recommendations anyone?

Network Storage
Hello,
I have looked into the various network attached storage devices and software
based solutions.
Can't really find one I like.
Would it be possible to add a couple HDs to my existing 6.8 server and set
them up as RAID drives? If so, how would I keep it from mirroring the
system drive?
Just spent$2500 on a transmission for my truck, so I broke right know and
need to go the cheapest route.
TIA

need undelete function
...ake for
granted. Convincing them that this is now impossible because we've moved
from NT to a k-RaD lInUx/sAmbA(tm) server is rather hard to achieve.
I'm currently building a "backup" server. It's basically a linux box in
another building (fires, y'know) with a few large HDs where each night, the
contents of the HDs of all the servers on the network is copied. The data is
then backed-up on tapes during the day. So if a user deletes an important
file, he can at least retrieve last night's copy (which is better than
nothing or waiting five hours for a tape restore)....

space allocation vs. thin provisioning
Short question:
I''m curious as to how ZFS manages space (free and used) and how
its usage interacts with thin provisioning provided by HDS
arrays. Is there any effort to minimize the number of provisioned
disk blocks that get writes so as to not negate any space
benefits that thin provisioning may give?
Background & more detailed questions:
In Jeff Bonwick''s blog[1], he talks about free space management
and metaslabs....

raidz2 resilience on 3 disks
Hello,
1) If i create a raidz2 pool on some disks, start to use it, then the disks''
controllers change. What will happen to my zpool? Will it be lost or is
there some disk tagging which allows zfs to recognise the disks?
2) if i create a raidz2 on 3 HDs, do i have any resilience? If any one of
those drives fails, do i loose everything? I''ve got one such pool and i''m
afraid it''s a ticking time bomb.
Thanks

Really bad KVM disk performance
Hi Gang,
I recently rented a server at a datacenter with Centos 5.7 X64, Q9550
Processor, 8GB Ram, and dual 250GB SATA HDs (with 16mb cache). They had
loaded it with KVM, and installed a 30-day trial of Virtualizor as the
front-end for KVM.
I was so impressed with how fasts the guests ran that I want to build a few of
these machines for myself. I just installed one: same Q9550 processor, 4GB
ram, and dual 250GB SAT...

Fsck on mdraid array
Something seems to be wrong with my file systems, and I want to fsck
everything. But I cannot.
The setup consists of 2 hds, carrying 3 raid1 (ext3) file systems (boot,
/, swap). OS is up-to-date CentOS 5.
So I boot from CentOS 5.3 dvd in rescue mode, do not mount the file
systems, and try to run
fsck -y /dev/md0
fsck -y /dev/md1
fsck -y /dev/md2
For each try I get an error message: "Superblock could not be...

More than 2TB RAID...
Hi,
I just received a new server (HP DL180G5) with 12x 1TB HDs and I bumped into fdisks 2TB limits...
Since this is an entry level server, I can't use the classic HP bootable utilities to create smaller volumes et can only create a big RAID6.
I found out that: using parted, labelling it gpt and creating the partitions would do the trick.
But, what about gr...

We have some HDS storage that isn''t supported by mpxio, so we have to use veritas dmp to get multipathing.
Whats the recommended way to use DMP storage with ZFS. I want to use DMP but get at the multipathed virtual luns at as low a level as possible to avoid using vxvm as much as possible.

Problem after last update
Hello list.
Since morning I have an emergency. After last kernel update one of my
servers didn't start. On display I see only "GRUB" :(
I have 2 more servers based on CentOS too, but after the same update
this servers works.
All servers have 2 HDs and works as software mirror.
I have started damaged machine using Knoppix and I can see partitions
and data on both disks. Of course I have made a backup.
Anybody has the same problem? It can be hardware problem - HD diode
light all the time. Or maybe something went wrong during update?
Regards...
