Question About Relocating Journal on Other Device
Hi. I'm using e2fsprogs 1.23 on a Roswell system with a patched 2.4.7 kernel (using patch ext3-2.4-0.9.5-247) and am trying to create an ext3 filesystem whose journal is located on another device. The incantation I'm trying is: mke2fs -j -J device=/dev/hdc2 /dev/hdc3 I keep getting an error along the lines of "mke2fs: Journal superblock not found". I've tried creating different types of filesystems (ext2, ext3, etc.) on the target device for journaling, but this didn't seem to change anything. Could someone point out the error or...

centos4.2:raid1:grub
...come up w/the right answer. This system works beautifully w/nothing wrong w/it. But my goal is to be able to test the raid system by just unplugging hda to mimic a faulty drive and have it just carry on and boot from hdc. md0 = hda1/hdc1 /boot (primary boot partitions on both drives) md1 = hda2/hdc2 / is it possible to just edit /boot/grub.conf??? I am really not sure of this Thx in advance. John Rose

Quantum IDE HDD DMA issue.
I am running RH 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-27.7.x. Recently I have added a new 60GB Quantum IDE hard drive to the server. I have set it up as a MASTER on a separate IDE channel. Problem mounting failed drive.
...em to figure out how to get it out of the system????) Anyhow I rebuilt a 2nd server, and tested and notice the same, even on a working systems I cannot mount the drives in another system....?? So, anyone able to help me either, mount the failed system (currantly sitting in the working system as hdc2) or mount it into anything else so I can copy some of the data off? This all started with a Grub error 25 that I could not seem to fix... Thanks for any tips. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... A small DIY test for 2.4.7 and 0.9.4
Hello all. I am using plain 2.4.7 with ext3-2.4-0.9.4-247, compiled with gcc-2.96-85 on a RH7.1 distribution with the relevant changes, i.e. e2fsprogs-1.22-1, mount-2.11g-4 and util-linux-2.11f-3 taken from rawhide. I am using sometimes my /usr/local partition for ext3 testing: /dev/hdc2 3842408 738176 2909044 21% /usr/local For my DIY testing, I am timing this trivial script which copies, decompresses and deletes the compressed source 2.2.17 kernel of 17563583 bytes (17M). The source partition /dev/hdc4 885468 792616 47872 95% /incoming...
