About defaults
Excuse me, what did you mean by "certainly wrong: you''re ... to make real physical partition hda1 visible to the domain"? Can we use real physical partition in vbd_list? And what the "cmdline_root" should be? Thanks. Xiaofang > vbd_list = [ (''phy:hda1'',''sda1'',''w''),

Problem in e2fsck ? read error in journal inode
...ich now is solved, I upgraded to 1.39, but now I have hit another problem (on another partition): The partition was formatted as ext3, and debugfs / dumpfs showed that the feature 'has_journal' was present (as expected). The e2fsck command gave the following: # e2fsck -B4096 -b32768 /dev/hda11 e2fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006) e2fsck: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while checking ext3 journal for /var So it seemed like a problem in the journal, as I could not find any option to e2fsck to tell it to skip applying (and reading) the journal, I set the filesystem festu...

syslinux 6.03 bug related to rev shadow and scroll bar with vshift
I thought I've found three bugs on syslinux 6.03: (1) With sample config file as is, i.e. leaving commented MENU VSHIFT and MENU COLOR UNSEL but uncommented MENU COLOR SEL: A black "border" is displayed below the selected line and on its right edge. (2) Uncommenting MENU COLOR UNSEL: This effect appears also on separators and on right edge on every unselected lines. (3)

Install CentOS on Partition(!)-images as a Xen-guest
...ssage "/dev/hda1 has a loop partition layout. To use this disk for the installation of CentOS it must be initialized". When I don't allow formatting I get caught in a loop ("Is a loop partition. Initialize?"), when I allow formatting I get a partition on each of the devices (hda11 and hda21) and I would be allowed to go on with the installation, but IMHO this would defeat the purpose of the exercise So my question: - is there some error in thinking on my side? - is this a situation that the installer can't deal with? (in other words: would it work if I copied a com...

Partition vs disk images
I realize this might be one of those religious topics, but is there any good rule of thumb as to how to setup storage for a Xen domU? Without really knowing any better, I''m basically going to make a disk image of the OS and the create a ''data'' partition on my raid 5 volume for each virtual machine. This is for use at home, so in reality it probably doesn''t
