samba passwords gone haywire since upgrade (3.0.0-1)
hi all,
i was running the previous RPM (samba-2.2.8a-2_rh73.i386.rpm) and have just
upgraded to the 3.0.0-1. everything seemed to go smoothly.
when I try to mount my media share from my other linux box, I get the
following error:

pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are invalid.)

My Back-UPS RS 1000 went haywire, any ideas?
...as not
often noticed quickly). This is also a way for you to check if the
situation is something like that - pull the cable and see if it holds up
for any non-trivial time ;)
Otherwise, maybe electronics went bad over time (dried capacitors etc.) so
the controller and its sensors are in fact going haywire. This might also
be replaceable, if you're good with soldering (or can find/hire someone who
is) or if warranty repair is still an option.
Finally, the UPS might partake in self-calibration, where it deliberately
discharges itself to check how long the battery holds up your load (maybe

My Back-UPS RS 1000 went haywire, any ideas?
Hi,
I am sorry for possible offtopic as this question is not quite
NUT-related but I cannot imagine any other place with people of such
deep and intimate knowledge of UPS behavior.
One day all of a sudden my APC Back-UPS RS 1000 refused to go online
(green led) even though mains was connected. I used upsc to see what is
going on, and ups.status was "OB DISCHRG", battery.charge was

download problem: Windows binaries - patched/devel versions
...I try to download the following:
http://cran.us.r-project.org/R-2.2.0pat-win32.exe
http://cran.us.r-project.org/R-2.3.0dev-win32.exe
(Same for all other mirrors (about 6) that I've tried.
Could someone please check if these files are accessible to them?
I'm guessing there's something haywire in my setup.
Note that I can ftp the files without problem.

rescue - UEFI revert to BIOS boot - how?
hi guys
I have a box on which UEFI boot has gone haywire and instead
of boot it power the box down, that is before even going to
grub2. (displays some error message)
I if change to BIOS boot then I can start Centos' rescue -
my question is: how can I rescue, re-build grub so it would
boot from tradition BIOS?
many thanks, L.

slow tint when tinting the whole screen
...h these machines, when I'm doing something that tints the whole
screen to gray (like trying to logout, or using some software that
prompts for sudo rights), it's really slow. Jagged. It seems that it's
not vertically synced or something.
Other tints, like when some program has gone haywire and stopped
responding to the system, works well (gradually and smoothly turning to
gray). Even when maximized.
I'm running a 1600x1200 screen with Nvidia 6600. I'd guess that this
hardware should be able to do this smoothly. Is this at all in the
compiz code, or is this done in some o...

systemctl poweroff
...and I see a weird trend in
recent Linux distributions.
Under CentOS 4.x, 5.x and 6.x, shutting down a server (workstation,
laptop) simply meant issuing 'shutdown -h now' (or choosing 'Shutdown'
from the GUI menu), and the machine would simply shut down. Whatever
crazy process went haywire, shutting down the system meant exactly that.
No questions asked.
Now with CentOS 7.x, sometimes the machine would simply hang during the
shutdown process, or I would get a message like "a stop job is running",
and I would end up having to hit the Reset button to stop the system, as

3.x & Solaris 8 lockups
Is anybody experiencing what I have twice now -- Samba 3.x running fine on
Sparc/Solaris 8 for a week or more then one day out of the blue it'll just
go all haywire? So haywire that in both my instances of this I had to
change Samba versions to get the servers back to life.
Long boring story short on any useful detail below...
Recently I had to go from 2.x to 3.x series since there aren't going to be
any more patches released for 2.x.
I started in Jul...

Call does not terminate correctly
...hone call to cell phone. Call was successful left it on for a few minutes. Tried punching all kinds of digits while on the call. Hung up.
2) Made second call. Picked up handset, was receiving dial tone. Tried first digit and received the error (buzzing sound from the handset) . The digit tone goes haywire and repeats itself over and over again (I think this is what creates the buzzing tone). Tried to make call while this was taking place. Hung up.
3) Reset T2.
4) Made three-four more additional calls all worked after resetting T2.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

listening to ogg with a Mac
...something like macamp or mint audio would be better to recommend.
We really should compile a list of players which work properly with
icecast, prehaps start an "icecast certification" process? :-) Ie, it
has to play Ogg, has to handle chained bitstreams properly (change
metadata, not go haywire when the number of channels or samplerate
changes, etc), and prehaps throw some other stuff in there such as it
has to properly handle non-vorbis codecs or something (ie, ignore them,
give a message that it lacks support, etc).

Asterisk 1.0.5-BRIstuffed-0.2.0-RC5 crashes with Ouch ... error while writing audio data: : Broken pipe
I have Asterisk 1.0.5-BRIstuffed-0.2.0-RC5 up and running. Everything
seems to be running fine but after some time asterisk just goes crazy
(even withouth any incoming or outgoing call activity perviously).
If I leave the box up for some time * goes haywire and the console is
flooded with this message:
Ouch ... error while writing audio data: : Broken pipe
At that time I can see that there are multiple instances of mpg123 active.
The solution to this problem is to kill-9 mpg123, do the same for *,

strange display problems with configuring and running wine
I am running Arch linux on my laptop and I installed wine a while back to check if one application I use would work with it or not. Well I couldnt get it running since it apparently uses MS .NET framework which doesnt seem to work very well with wine.
But to the issue at hand. Today I decided to try off another application, well okay a game actually, and I ran winecfg as normal user to re-make

strange results from binomial lmer?
...stress+(1|speaker),dat,binomial)
logLik(gs) # -1344 (df=3)
logLik(g_s) # -1342 (df=3)
logLik(s_s) # -1314 (df=3)
logLik(gs_s) # -11823 (df=4)
This seems like an error of some kind. The glm() model with both fixed effects
is well-behaved, but lmer() seems to be going haywire when confronted with the
same situation plus the random effect.
Could anyone advise me how to stop this from happening, and/or explain why it
is?
Thanks very much,
Daniel

Is the file system size of /var/db/samba4/gencache.tdb also 4294967295?
I think something outside of tdb must be causing this to go haywire.
What are the last messages before this starts happening?

Samba as a frontend to virtual files
My company built a little business application in FoxPro many years ago, and
it's gradually grown into a giant ball of mission-critical haywire. We've
starting porting small parts of it to PostgreSQL, but it will probably take
years to complete the project. In the mean time, I've been considering the
option of hacking Samba to present a set of virtual files that are actually
frontends to PostgreSQL tables.
For those of you...

A further comment on 1.2-RC6
Running on UBUNTU 10.04 current to recent hours.
When running Simcity 4 Rush Hour with a very small suite of plugins, sometimes the graphics goes haywire. The early symptoms are RGB + black squares appearing here and there. As this develops, graphic objects start to take on primary colours. I've never let it go to a crash.
Sometimes restarting the game fixes this. You can tell because when the tile you were working on is called up, the jun...

nmbd appears unresponsive
...f, but it
can't look up \\job for love or money. (Additionally, discovering
shares via the browser doesn't work -- but I suspect this is related to
my apparent problems with nmbd.)
I have followed the checklist in chapter 38 of the Samba HOWTO
Collection, up through step 8 where things go haywire. "Fix the nmbd
installation" is listed as the way to overcome this, but unfortunately
the checklist is a little sparse on precisely how to do this.
In step 6 (run "nmblookup -d 2 '*'"), I discovered that I had to
explicitly give it a target. By itself, executing that...

SPOOLSV and XP PRO
...different PCs
that do this to our server.
If I kill the SPOOLSV.EXE service in the XP task manager, the runaway
SMBD process ends immediately. The downfall is that XP PRO machine then
can't print.
To dig a little deeper, I tried this: booted the PC, verified that the
SMBD process indeed was haywire, then deleted the three network printer
configurations from the XP PRO control panel. Boom! That SMBD process
ended again.
I have enabled devmode in the conf as indicated in the docs, which did
not resolve the problem.
All information you can throw my way, related or not, is greatly
appreciate...
