Alaska and Hawaii map data?
I can plot each county of the contiguous 48 states or all of them using
variations of
map('county', region=c('wisconsin' . . . .)
in the maps package. I was wondering whether similar data was available for
Alaska and Hawaii? I was also wondering if there was a database that listed
FIPS codes for the counties in Alaska and Hawaii. Similar to 'county.fips'.
Thank you.

thematic map of USA
My goal is to prepare a thematic map of the US, with states shaded
according to their values for a variable of interest. I would like to
include an inset for Alaska in the upper left and an inset for Hawaii in
the lower left. If possible, I'd like to use Albers conic projection, or
something similar. Thus far I have tried using the maps package with
its state database (which omits Alaska and Hawaii) and the gmaps package
(which places an inset for Alaska in the lower left and uses a

Challenging SQL for you...
...join the two tables...taggable_id is the id
of a tuple in another relation in the database, and type is the name of
said relation.
What I want to do is select * taggable_id''s from taggings that have
tag_ids matching a set of ids from the tags table.
So, my user might specify "hawaii, islands, girls, beach, beer" as a tag
query string, and I only want to pull taggable_id''s for those that are
tagged with *each* of these items...not, with either, as the current
plugin works.
The only way I''ve figured out to do this so far is the following query.

Bubble plot on shapefile - projection issues?
Dear R help list,
?
I am working on some data from a study on the habitat use and movement patterns of fish using a marine protected area in Hawaii.? We have a number of acoustic receivers in a MPA, and any time a tagged fish passes within range it records the date and time of detection.? I am trying to make bubble plots?showing the number of detections for each fish at each receiver.? I have been able to get it to work using a map generated f...

Color Alaska in USA map
Hello:
I have a problem when I tried to color the USA map with different colors. The following is my data (I only used the second column of data):
alaska, 1, 2
Hawaii, 0, 0
USA, 5, 5
And here is my code:
library("latticeExtra")
library("mapproj")
state<-read.table("C:\\usaclass.txt",sep=",")
state
range<-with(state,range(state[1:3,3]))
range
nbreaks=6

USA map with all states
Hi R Gurus!
There was a function in S called "usa()" which would plot the US.
I found map('usa') in R for the lower 48 states. Is there a way to
include Alaska and Hawaii as well, please?
Thanks,

separate maps in one figure
My aim is to create a figure consisting of three maps: Alaska in the
upper left corner, the 48 contiguous US states in the center right, and
Hawaii in the lower left corner. In some ways the figure I'm trying to
create is analogous to figure 1.5 in Paul Murrell's excellent "R
Graphics", which combines a map of New Zealand with a map of the world.
I tried adapting the code for that figure,

PBSmapping problems with importGSHHS
Dear List,
I am trying to use the PBSmapping package to import and plot the shoreline of Hawaii. I am having problems importing and plotting the specific regions that I would like to plot. Specifically, I can't get it to import the range of x variables that I would like. I think my problem is with a variable called xoff, but I have no idea what it is, what it does, or how I am supposed...
