automounting a usb-harddrive/cdrom that can be mapped from the login script.
Hi,
I am installing a Samba 3.0.1 on RH90 for a little school, and they want
to have access to a mobile usb-harddrive.
The harddrive shoud be mapped via the login script, and here is were my
troubles begin....
I have been experimenting with the autofs service, which works great if
the harddrive is present at login time.
If one login at a time where the harddrive isn't present the login
script fails and th...

Share USB harddrive
Hi,
I have made a share on my normal harddrive which I can access from my
Windows client with no problems. But when I mount my USB harddrive and

I have also tried to make a softlink from my normal share to the USB

Windows.
Does anyone kno...

Problem with secondary sata controller
I am having problems getting my 64-bit Debian Squeeze (Xen version 4.0, Linux Kernel 2.6.32) dom0 to recognize a harddrive connected to a secondary sata controller. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 and has two sata controllers. The first is controlled by an Intel X79 chipset and the second is controlled by a Marvell 88SE9172 chip. During the initial install of Debian everything is fine and I can see harddrives...

Samba on top of Windows?
Hi all,
I just bought a brand new PC for my living room (Asus eee Box) that
happens to come with Windows 7. I can nicely plug in large USB hard
drives, any my intention was to share these harddrives on the network,
for example with my old Windows 98 PC on which I still run some favorite
computer games. And of course, I would also like to access the large
harddrive occasionally from my linux box (e.g. to put backups on them).
However, I had to learn that Windows 7 does not want to share my

OT: How many watts do I need?
Hello all,
Sorry for the OT thing.
I'm helping a friend setting up a new box. It's a Pentium 4 with 430Watt power
supply. He wants to plugin his old harddrives and DVD into the new box. The
total will be: 3 harddrives, 1 DVD drive, 1 CDRW drive. In the box there are
also 2 big fans.
Is 430Watt enough?
Thank you for your sharing.

Server Setup Advice
Hello Everybody!
I am currently setting up an Asterisk server for medium to high load
(approximately 20-35 concurrent phone lines).
Do you think the following specs will sufficiently satisfy this system?
CPU: XeonQC3220 2.4GHZ 8M
RAM: 2X2GB/800
Harddrive: 1X250GB
I could add harddrives and partition them into /var and /log
directories to help with diskdrive throughput.
Thanks!

Bug#404857: can't save domUs : not enough harddrive space
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 3.0.?
debian etch :
"i forgot to send a bugreport before doing an upgrade so i don't know
exactli the version"
when i do a shutdown of xen0 (halt or reboot system) by default it saves
all my domUs, but if i don't have enough harddrive space to save the
domUs' RAM xen doesn't detect it.
And he try 1minute before writing a none explicite message error.
Thanks

Data is Copying when a new brick is added.

happen when I need to add more bricks for storage capacity. My config files
are below but I'll try and explain what is going on. I have 2 machines with
2 hard drives in each. I created a replicated storage system where machine
a replicates to machine b. Everything worked fine when only 1 harddrive
was set up on each machine. I filled up the harddrives to the point where
there is only 1.5 gigs free on each one. They match because it was all
replicated.
After this, I added in the configuration for the second harddrive in each
machine. The machines are still replicating, so the harddrives...

Can Wine be configured to access unmountable harddrive?
Hello...
I am trying to run a program under linux using wine called "Recover My Files". This program is designed to recover data from corrupted harddrives contining FAT and NTFS partitions by reading them sector by sector or cluster by cluster.
The thing is, the drive in question is unmountable due to logic problems on the device, which it appears is rendering the drive invisible to the program (Recover My Files) I am trying to use under Wine. Ru...

Did i get hacked?
...:30 to move the apache logs to a tmp file restart
apache sleep 5 minutes and then move the tmp file somewhere where newsyslog
can catch it. According to the logs, apache restarted fine but the tmp files
never made it anywhere. Again nothing useful in them either.
So if this was a hardware failure (harddrive), then any kernel panic
statements probably would not make it to the harddrive. So it would be
hard to tell. My question is, what if i got hacked? Would there be anyway
to find out despite me being totally unprepared for this?
That question really messes with my head.
Any pointer and/or clue stic...

Thanks - pushed.
I made a small change to the first patch so it properly handles
the error return value from command*.

Detecting harddrive problem
Hi all,
Recently I realize the filesystem became Read-only and there is "media
error" message in the system log. It has passed several days without
notice.
I'm thinking of setting up a script to grep that "media error" and send email.
Is there more elegant way of doing this?
Thank you.

Major problems with 2.0.7 and SATA drives
Hello everyone,
I''m hoping to find an answer to my problem here. Currently I''m installing
xen 2.0.7 on 30 dual opteron machines with 4GB memory. The machines have
Tyan K8SR as motherboard with Silicon Image 3114 chip sata controler and 2 x
300 GB Western Digital SATA drives. Each xen server has 5 domUs, where some
of them have high traffic and thus require high disk usage.
