bindings - python module
hello all,
i'm new to xapian and am just beginning to play around with the python
bindings. first off, the example (simplesearch.py) i pulled from cvs
didn't work complaining of not finding the _xapian module. after using
strace, i noticed python trying to search for _xapian.so. the default
xapian-bindings build produces _xapian (without the .so extension) so
renaming it to _xapian.so

Cool: using Wine to dissect the Storm bot!

context switch
In debugging the sles9 port on 64 bit MP machines, I am seeing a problem
where the hypervisor takes a fault in loading fs in the context switch
code (load_segments()). The selector is one of the TLS selectors. It
appears that the cpu in question has updated this selector with a value
of 0 just prior to the problem I am seeing. Looking at the Linux context
switch code, we first update the TLS

[LLVMdev] landingpad instruction documentation is vague
I am new to the landingpad (which is relatively new too).
Documentation http://llvm.org/docs/LangRef.html#i_landingpad leaves some
questions open:
1. What happens when actual exception type isn't listed in catch or
filter clauses? Does it still return the corresponding structure like if
it was listed? Or behavior is undefined?
2. What is 'somety'? Shouldn't it maybe say

Why joins queries make result readonly?
Are there any rationalies to make queries obtained by joining scope to be
readonly? I read some old posts (pre-rails3) that joins adds additional
columns to record so that ActiveRecord doesn''t know how to update that
fields, but actually I don''t see that fields. For example I write model
class Order < ActiveRecord::Base
has_and_belongs_to_many :executors, class_name:

conf.design 2.0.0 has been submitted to CRAN
A new release of the conf.design package has been submitted to CRAN.
This is largely a "tidying up" release, with no substantial change in
functionality. The one difference some users may notice is that the method
functions
factorize.default
factorize.factor
are no longer exported directly, but instead are simply registered as S3
methods in the namespace. This change should not

KMO sampling adequacy and SPSS -- partial solution
Dear colleagues,
I've been searching for information on the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO)
Measure of Sampling Adequacy (MSA). This statistic is generated in
SPSS and is often used to determine if a dataset is "appropriate" for
factor analysis -- it's true utility seems quite low, but it seems to
come up in stats classes a lot. It did in mine, and a glance through
the R-help

Trouble getting lda to gzip incomming mails (zlib plugin)
Hi!
I've followed the guide at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib to try to make Dovecot gzip incomming mails, but it doesn't seem to work.
I've made pop/imap read gzipped files, and this seems to work perfectly, but LDA is still saving incomming mails in plain text.
There's not too much information out there regarding the zlib module, so I'm not sure where to start

Storing RTP in Ogg
...y of libogg and I would like to avoid depending
on a second external library.
Does anyone else have experience to share about using Ogg for their own
in-house applications? Or any advice they can give?
Should I consider libogg2 for a commercial app due mid-year?
Thanks in advance, and happy hangovers.
