bindings - python module
hello all,
i'm new to xapian and am just beginning to play around with the python
bindings. first off, the example (simplesearch.py) i pulled from cvs
didn't work complaining of not finding the _xapian module. after using
strace, i noticed python trying to search for _xapian.so. the default
xapian-bindings build produces _xapian (without the .so extension) so
renaming it to _xapian.so

context switch
In debugging the sles9 port on 64 bit MP machines, I am seeing a problem
where the hypervisor takes a fault in loading fs in the context switch
code (load_segments()). The selector is one of the TLS selectors. It
appears that the cpu in question has updated this selector with a value
of 0 just prior to the problem I am seeing. Looking at the Linux context
switch code, we first update the TLS

1.2 released!
...body for your great work of the past two
years. I'm very happy with what we have achieved with 1.2 (even if we
didn't manage to get the regression numbers down ;-) You should all go
out and have a drink to celebrate.
Code freeze is of course lifted now, so once you have recovered from
your hangover you can go wild with patches again. Please resubmit any
patch that was marked deferred (rebased to the current tip of course).
Releases will be made from the 1.3.x development branch every two weeks
as usual.
The 'stable' git branch has been reset to point to 1.2. Fixes can be

But the value should always be some @<typeinfo>, can't be anything else?

No, it's not target specific and in fact any pointer type is OK for a catch
clause. Clang has no need to bitcast to i8* in general, probably it is a
historical hangover from the previous exception handling scheme which did
require i8*. The dragonegg frontend doesn't do such bitcasts and works
perfectly fine.

[LLVMdev] landingpad instruction documentation is vague
I am new to the landingpad (which is relatively new too).
Documentation http://llvm.org/docs/LangRef.html#i_landingpad leaves some
questions open:
1. What happens when actual exception type isn't listed in catch or
filter clauses? Does it still return the corresponding structure like if
it was listed? Or behavior is undefined?
2. What is 'somety'? Shouldn't it maybe say

Have deleted this line. This is a hangover from when I tried to connect
both the old and new ADs. No device exists with the IP address
192.168.0.21, luckily.

Why joins queries make result readonly?
Are there any rationalies to make queries obtained by joining scope to be
readonly? I read some old posts (pre-rails3) that joins adds additional
columns to record so that ActiveRecord doesn''t know how to update that
fields, but actually I don''t see that fields. For example I write model

Friday Jan 1 Voip Users Conference
...nference conference!
We will be live on Friday January 1, 2010 and there is also a "reel"
of recorded greetings from people around the world wishing the VoIP
Community a Happy New Year. You can hear this anytime during the year
by downloading it from the site starting next week.
Besides hangover remedies, live participants will be talking about the
decade in VoIP and maybe what's to come.
January's schedule has Tim Behrsin from Voxbone on iNum on January
8th, "Hacking VoIP" author Himanshu Dwivedi on January 15th and a

KMO sampling adequacy and SPSS -- partial solution
Dear colleagues,
I've been searching for information on the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO)
Measure of Sampling Adequacy (MSA). This statistic is generated in
SPSS and is often used to determine if a dataset is "appropriate" for
factor analysis -- it's true utility seems quite low, but it seems to
come up in stats classes a lot. It did in mine, and a glance through
the R-help

Trouble getting lda to gzip incomming mails (zlib plugin)
Hi!
I've followed the guide at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib to try to make Dovecot gzip incomming mails, but it doesn't seem to work.
I've made pop/imap read gzipped files, and this seems to work perfectly, but LDA is still saving incomming mails in plain text.
There's not too much information out there regarding the zlib module, so I'm not sure where to start

Storing RTP in Ogg
...y of libogg and I would like to avoid depending
on a second external library.
Does anyone else have experience to share about using Ogg for their own
in-house applications? Or any advice they can give?
Should I consider libogg2 for a commercial app due mid-year?
Thanks in advance, and happy hangovers.
