smbd and nmbd
Hi. I'm getting messages to the effect: Inetd: /usr/local/samba/lib/nmbd: Hangup Last messages repeat 319 times I start samba from inetd. Should I be starting it as a daemon or starting it in init.d? If starting it as a daemon in in init.d, does someone have a script that can let me use? I'm running samba on an a Sun E450, with Solaris 2.7. Thanks. grant

Joel@hammershome.com: Re: smbclient error
A service is a share made available by samba or by the windows computer. smbclient -L hostname will list the services on the host. smbclient \\\\hosthame\\service will attach to the service For example: smbclient \\\\hammer1\\public will attach to the share public on host hammer1 Joel Joel On Sun, Dec 16, 2001 at 03:12:35PM -0800, Lamar Seifuddin wrote: > Joel, > > thanks for

Hello Joel, Thank you very much for your reply. I tried use the same print command under UNIX as I have in sam.conf, it works well. Do you have any futher ideas? BTW, could you tell me where I find docs about print using Samba2.2.2 and W2K? Thanks a lot, Grace What happens when you print a postscript file from the samba server directly using the same print command as you have in smb.conf?

Looking for a script to add/remove multiple shares from smb.conf
Has anyone ever written a script to remove individual shares from the smb.conf file? I am trying to put together a script that will add & remove multiple shares at once by giving a <sharelist as input to the script. Adding shares is easy because I can just append the shares to the smb.conf file, but removing individual share entries within the smb.conf file without messing up the

pre-/postexec in printers-section
Hi, after updating our printserver from Samba V2.0.6 to V2.2.7 I encountered the following problem. Samba does not execute the (root) pre- and postexec within the printers section. If you are using these command in another section everything works fine. Does anybody know if these command are not supported in the printers section anymore? smb.conf: [global] ... load printers = yes lpq cache

Port 139 versus Port 445
I've noticed that my W2K clients connect to Samba much more quickly if I run it on port 445 instead of 139. However, my WNT clients then won't connect at all. I read somewhere that it was possible to forward the requests on port 139 to port 445. Anyone know how to do this or how to listen to both ports simultaneously? Thanks, Jason Joines Open Source = Open Mind

Samba print command only works on restart, help!
hey I am running Samba 2.2.8 on FreeBSD4.8, and all is working well, except: I have set up a virtual printer using Samba to take a print job, turn it into a pdf and then email it back to an address, using a perl script and the Samba print command. I have tested the script logging in as the Samba guest user and it works fine, but when i try to print to the printer it never works: the script is

File Permissions
I have set up Samba so that all users on my small network can read from my one of my Linux shares as well as write to that share. However, when user A saves a file to that share, user B can't open it -- and vice versa. How can I set up samba so that all files written to that share can be read, modified, and deleted by all users? Thanks in advance for an answer to this question.

Multiple Adapter Issues -Bug?
List, Yes...I was missing an equal symbol...I did run testparm on my smb.conf file as well and it did not detect that however? Bug? Also what is the parameter 'socket address = 0.0.0.0'?, is that like 'interfaces'? /B -----Original Message----- From: Joel Hammer [mailto:Joel@HammersHome.com] Sent: Sunday, June 16, 2002 15:20 To: David Busby; samba@lists.samba.org Subject: Re: [Samba] Multiple Adapter Issues Both these statements may be wrong, but: 1. I think you need an equal sign after interfaces. Have you run testparm? 2. I think your computer will still listen to all interf...

Shortened sharenames
Doing a little shell scripting with smbclient and noticed that smbclient -N -L host only displays the first 13 charachters of the sharename. Since that is totally crippled feel like I must be missing something obvious, but can't track it down. Any pointers on getting FULL sharenames using smbclient? Thanks for the help - AZ
