Hald
No manpage or other info in the system about the hald or hal. What little I did find on a RH site did not really enlighten me that much. Is there some obscure documentation somewhere about the hald and its assets and attributes? -- Snowman

hald-addon-usbhid-ups
...hich I know is still a work in progress, and so I enable the hal part only when playing around with it. I see a lot of kernel warnings because there are two processes that access the device like this: usbfs: process 19727 (usbhid-ups) did not claim interface 0 before use usbfs: process 19862 (hald-addon-usbh) did not claim interface 0 before use My question: is this due to my kernel version, the version of my libusb (libusb-0.1.12-5.1), or do I need a more up-to-date version of drivers/libusb.c? When I make a change to a HID variable that is marked as HU_FLAG_SEMI_STATIC using upsrw (e.g....

What is hald doing?
The hald daemon is the second largest consumer of CPU time on my CentOS v4.3 system. Is there a way to determine what it is spending all this time on? Thanks.

I tried creating a new partition on a disk. After the partition table was written, I got a message about the kernel still using the old partition table. How do I get whatever system to register the new partition short of rebooting the box?

New problem, new thread (I think)
...57:Network UPS Tools:/var/lib/ups:/bin/false ups:x:506:506::/home/ups:/bin/bash The passwd for ups is in both the passwd file, and AFAIK in the nut config files, and they match. Maybe I found it, an lsof|grep hiddev0 spits out: hald-addo 3157 root 4r CHR 180,0 0t0 1416 /dev/hiddev0 Killed, as was the 52 script in /etc/hal/fdi. Reboot time. Rhino cards lock up system -- anyone else ever seen this?
Hi Folks, Struggling with a new * installation with 2 Rhino R2T1 cards. For some reason, the system is locking up tight when you run ztcfg to configure the card(s). Configuration is asterisk 1.2.14, zaptel 1.2.12, and rhino's 1.05rxt1 drivers. The cards seem to load fine with a "modprobe rxt1", but once you run "ztcfg -vvv", the system will lock up within a few seconds, no
