Any recommendations on Perc H700 controller on Dell Rx10 ?
Hi folks: At work, I have an R510, and R610 and an R710 - all with the H700 PERC controller. Based on experiments, it seems like there is no way to bypass the PERC controller - it seems like one can only access the individual disks if they are set up in RAID0 each. This brings me to ask some questions: a. Is it fine (in terms of an intelligent controller coming in the wa...

Dell R515 with PERC H700 - JBOD?
Hello, I'm curiuos if anyone knows if it's possible to set up a Dell R515 (which has PERC H700) to be JBOD. It seems the only options are RAID0 or RAID1. I read posts, where people say it can by done by making each disk its own RAID0.? This works, but it wigs out when that disk is removed, and forgets a disk was ever there (unless I go back in the PERC and fix it). My plan is to have a syste...

PowerEdge R510 with PERC H200/H700 with ZFS
Anyone have any experience with a R510 with the PERC H200/H700 controller with ZFS? My perception is that Dell doesn''t play well with OpenSolaris. Thanks, Geoff

Does anyone know if I can reconfigure a PERC H700 without rebooting?
Hi all, I have a server which is really difficult to restart because of usage requirements and the fact that it's in a co-lo rack so miles away. I've added a couple of drives which I'd like to bring up and add to LVM but the config I know is in the PERC BIOS and requires a reboot. Can the config be changed in the openmanage suite and if so can someone point me in the right

vcpu-pin cause dom0 kernel panic
I use xen 4.0(dom0 is suse11.sp1,2.6.32 x86_64) on Dell R710 with PERC H700 RAID adapter. --Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz --8 CPU cores. --Memory 64G --RAID5 4.5T When I dedicated (pin) a CPU core only for dom0 use. (I specify "dom0_max_vcpus=1 dom0_vcpus_pin" options for Xen) I got dom0 kernel panic error(pin-1-5.30.bmp) When I pin 2 core to dom0, the d...

...troller installed in this server, the SAS 6 i/r. It likely worked fine in the R320 due to the age difference and the raid controller installed in it, I don't believe firmware updates will make the drive usable or extra space visible to the controller. <snip> IMPORTANT NOTE! Only the Dell H700 and H800 currently support the 3TB drives (H200 will add support later this year) - NO earlier controllers, such as the PERC4/5/6, SAS5/6 (or ANY other Dell controller not mentioned) have this support and in some cases, even though you may be able to see the drive, this has NOT been tested or valid...

for a guest accessing host "full disk", how to prevent host vgscan
Hi All. I have a dell system with a H700 raid. Within the hardware RAID config I've created a "virtual disk" which I have assigned to one of my guests. On the host the device is "/dev/sdb", on the guest it's "/dev/vdb". This works fine. Within the guest, we have created lvm PV on /dev/vdb (using...

heavy IO load when working with sparse files (centos 6.4)
...the processes are run, such as load avg 5-15 on a 24 core (12 core with HT enabled) server. We also verify before starting such a process that the spindle with the file we're working on is not being unduly hammered by another process. These servers have one hardware raid controller each (Dell H700 controller with write cache enabled) and multiple raid arrays (separate sets of physical spindles). Interestingly, the IO storm is not limited to the array / spindles where the sparse file resides but affects all IO on that server. We have looked extensively and not found any account of a similar...

home directory server performance issues
...server does an NFSv4 export which is mounted by all dev servers. The home directory server hardware is a Dell R510 with dual E5620 CPUs and 8 GB RAM. There are eight 15k 2.5? 600 GB drives (Seagate ST3600057SS) configured in hardware RAID-6 with a single hot spare. RAID controller is a Dell PERC H700 w/512MB cache (Linux sees this as a LSI MegaSAS 9260). OS is CentOS 5.6, home directory partition is ext3, with options ?rw,data=journal, usrquota?. I have the HW RAID configured to present two virtual disks to the OS: /dev/sda for the OS (boot, root and swap partitions), and /dev/sdb for the home...

Dell OpenManage
Hi Everyone, I have a Xen host (Xen 3.4.2) which is running CentOS 5.5 Dom0. I wish to install Dell OpenManage to get a nice web interface with hardware status. Do I need to do anything special to get this working on a Xen host? Or does it work out of the box? The reason why I''m asking, instead of trying, is that my server is currently on its way to a colo, and I won''t have

[HOWTO] Update megaraid_sas driver in Linux 2.6.32.x to make it boot and work with Dell/LSI RAID adapters
...s driver version in upstream Linux 2.6.32.25 is pretty old, version 4.01, and it seems to be very buggy. It fails to bring up disks and boot fails. Many people have reported this issue on various hardware using LSI RAID adapters, and on various Dell servers (R310/R410/R510/R710) using Dell PERC H700 RAID adapters (which are rebranded LSI adapters). This problem is not Xen specific at all, it''s just a broken driver version included in Linux 2.6.32.x kernel. Based on posts to various Xen related mailing lists and IRC channels it seems this issues affects many Xen users, so I decide...

Running on Dell hardware?
I have a Dell R710 which has been flaky for some time. It crashes about once per week. I have literally replaced every piece of hardware in it, and reinstalled Sol 10u9 fresh and clean. I am wondering if other people out there are using Dell hardware, with what degree of success, and in what configuration? The failure seems to be related to the perc 6i. For some period around the time

ZFS + Dell MD1200's - MD3200 necessary?
We are looking at building a storage platform based on Dell HW + ZFS (likely Nexenta). Going Dell because they can provide solid HW support globally. Are any of you using the MD1200 JBOD with head units *without* an MD3200 in front? We are being told that the MD1200''s won''t "daisy chain" unless the MD3200 is involved. We would be looking to use some sort of

Resizing est4 filesystem while mounted
Greetings - I had a logical volume that was running out of space on a virtual machine. I successfully expanded the LV using lvextend, and lvdisplay shows that it has been expanded. Then I went to expand the filesystem to fill the new space (# resize2fs -p /dev/vde1) and I get the results that the filesystem is already xx blocks long, nothing to do. If I do a # df -h, I can see that the

gluster client performance
Hi- I'm new to Gluster, but am trying to get it set up on a new compute cluster we're building. We picked Gluster for one of our cluster file systems (we're also using Lustre for fast scratch space), but the Gluster performance has been so bad that I think maybe we have a configuration problem -- perhaps we're missing a tuning parameter that would help, but I can't find
