here at wkdu.org our minds are blown trying to figure out what our problem is, we are using a dell optiplex gx1 with a soundblaster live card. we are getting a nasty hum on the line in. the thing is we plug a cd player directly into the soundcard the hum goes away and when we plug the line in into anything else there is no hum, so the question i ask where is the hum coming from? we are completely bogg...

[Bridge] One NIC not bridging?
Hello, I'm having a problem getting two (working) NICs enslaved to a bridge to both work in the bridge. The setup is just for testing and looks like this: (NETWORK)-------|bridge|---------|test PC| I'm building a bridge from an old Dell Optiplex GX1 desktop. Using kernel-2.6.9-gentoo-r4, with bridging and ebtables compiled into the kernel; the two PCI NICs are Intel, and the e100 module compiled, installed, and works fine (tested both NICs with DHCP and got network access w/o a problem). Also installed the bridge-tools with emerge. (FWIW, The...

Segmentation Fault when using dig, nslookup, host...
I have setup Centos-3.1 on a Dell Optiplex GX1 this week. It has to replace an old Compaq Deskpro I used as a firewall/router running the no longer supported RedHat 7.1. I have the NAT firewall up and running, and it works OK. However, there is one thing bugging me. I cannot use any client software that queries a nameserver. I tried to use...

kphone and *
I'm having trouble with kphone on our system. It's using ulaw on an internal network. No NAT. I had it working fine with very similar hardware (an old Dell Optiplex GX1) running as an LTSP terminal. But then I put the same sound card in an Optiplex G1. Kphone will answer the line fine when I call it (call coming from the * machine), but when we try to get kphone to dial, each GUI button-press takes like 1min to respond. When calling kphone, dtms tones send fine...

Asterisk@Home
...risk@Home is based on RHEL 3 Linux. RHEL 3 does not support many older systems. You should have at least a 300MHz PII. This may have been an oversight on my part but most of the info I have read on Asterisk says it does not run well on systems slower than this. Besides look on e-bay a dell Optiplex GX1, a great Linux and Asterisk box with good hardware support, sells for $34 (buy it now)! Seem like a worthwhile investment for Asterisk/Linux experimentation. If you really want to use Asterisk on slower hardware try Debian Linux it runs on almost anything and has good asterisk support. 2. I can’t...

DVD reader: Hardware problem or OS glitch?
Hello: The box is dual boot (Win XP & CentOS 5). A Dell Dimension 4300 Celeron. There was an intermittent problem with this last year and last Thanksgiving, I wiped the HD and installed Win XP and CentOS 5 clean. My daughter asked me to install KStars which is in the kdeedu RPM on the Fedora Core 6 Install DVD. I did that, without any problems, on my box and on my wife's box. On the

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list. I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without modifications. How did I try it? Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock ) Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee prep-out.log The build failed at the end: Processing files: kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL Checking
