Long lines with Sweave
I have used Sweave a lot the latest year, but never really used any long
function calls.
If I have code which look like this

gof <- benthic.flux(ID="Gulf of Finland",
meas.conc=conc,
bw.conc=bw.conc,
time=times,
substance=expression(DIC~(mmol~m^{-3}))
)

I get the output by Sweave...

10 Gigabit Ethernet and Samba
...ce using 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections with
Samba? Specifically, if you have had such an experience, can you share what
sorts of optimizations you made to get the maximum data transfer between server
and workstation?
I am just experimenting with this kind of setup myself and I see a huge GULF
between the raw TCP/IP transfers that I can make between two machines and
the speeds I get when Samba is in the middle. I just have a gut feeling that
Samba buffers are not optimized for the quantity of data of speed of transfer.
Perhaps a knowledgeable individual could suggest some Samba...

I'm sure there are drop in replacements for ifconfig and route, but even
if deprecated I have not needed to revisit that script for many years,
so I'm not changing it.
When it does eventually break I have to look...

Thunderbird update without announcement?
Hi,
I usually receive updates after the related announcement has hit my
inbox. But today I see a thunderbird update, but no message on
centos-announce yet, not even in the archives.
Regards,
Leonard.

Crap. Didn't know where he lived. If you're reading this, Johnny, stay

Possible bug in Vorbis
Hello all,
Today I noticed a potentially serious bug in Vorbis encoding. I'm still
using RC2, so perhaps it's already been reported and cleared up. While
listening to a recording of Moxy Fruvous's "Gulf War Song", I noticed that the
vocals at the very beginning clearly have their high frequencies quite
attenuated. Sounds like it was recorded through a piece of foam. Earlier this
week I check the original recording and was unable to hear it. Going through my
music, I've been able to fun...

Will rpcclient ever get better?
...of someone trying to improve on
rpcclient, specifically regarding the printer-related commands. Also, it
seems that rpcclient has trouble returning a large list of printers
(enumprinters), like in the range of 200. Has anyone heard about this?
Thanks in advance for replies :-)

Anybody has the same problem? Any suggestions? Any help will be very

Thanks in advance.

LMTP delivery segfaults when user is over quota.
...6d605
I also noticed a similar construct being used on line 465
(rcpt->rcpt.rcpt->path) that was causing the segfault on the above
commit on line 136.
struct smtp_address *rcpt_to = rcpt->rcpt.rcpt->path;
Should that also use rcpt->rcpt.path; ?
Thanks from the other side of the gulf!

Matchspy and faceting
Have been working recently on a site that classifies posts using tags in
taxonomies, so a post about the Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico might be
tagged 'Subscribers only' (access level), 'Barack Obama' (person), 'Tony
Hayward' (person), 'BP' (company), 'Transocean' (company), 'Gulf of
Mexico' (location).
With some advice from Richard Boulton I started looking at using th...

Your outage patterns may be different, so I may be off about the precise
timings. I suspect though, that there is a gulf between "protection
device restores power in seconds" and "truck roll". 28m for drive to
fault, visually inspect, decide it's cleared, replace fuse, is amazing
and only happens if the people are in the office next to the truck, and
even then it needs more luck.

It means you're stuck in your own hand crafted niche. Which is fine, but it's
up to you to maintain the niche, or you find yourself using obsolete tools
like ifconfig and route.
I'd argue there's a gulf between keeping things simple and doing things your
own way.
