Winbind idmap_rid - no members in "domain users" .....
On my ADS member server it doesn't show any members of GUESTSHIRE\domain users:x:5513: using getent group Is this normal behavior? If not any ideas how do I fix it? Out of curiosity I shutdown winbind and samba, deleted all *.tdb files ( except secrets) and restarted them. Same thing happens. There are no users in there... But if I check in AD users and comp...

...a vanilla system that I built to test out the changes to chapter 9 for you John, it appears that on a system configured like this: Ubuntu Hoary All ldap, nss_ldap, etc obtained from Ubuntu sources Samba 3.0.13 Debian stable from samba.planetmirror.com smbldap-tools-0.8.7.tgz Users in ou=People,dc=guestshire,dc=com etc And the adduser script like this: add user script = /opt/IDEALX/sbin/smbldap-useradd -m '%u' NT4 server system SP6a vampiring users works %100, there are absolutely no errors in the error log, and the vampire log show the users being added to the multiple groups successfully. samba errors
Hey all, I have just installed samba on my Slackware 10.1 server, and intend on using it for sharing files between 2 windows xp machines, and one apple running OS X 10.4. However, when I attempt to connect to the server I recieve these errors: darwin:~ Mike$ smbclient -L 10.1.1.100 session request to 10.1.1.100 failed (Call returned zero bytes (EOF)) session request to 10 failed (Call

Manual UID & GID mapping with Active Directory
Greetings, I'm looking how I can set manually the GID & UID of my Active Directory users into Samba & Winbind. I have several server linux using Samba and they are linked to Active Directory to get users & groups. On all my Linux system I did a "net join ads". Also I set this option in all smb.conf: idmap uid = 20000-30000 idmap gid =

Samba, OS X Tiger 10.4 plain text password, username null-padded?
Our samba server is running Solaris 9 and Samba 3.0.2.a . For reasons *outside the scope of this question* we are using plaintext passwords and authenticating via our NFS server. (I know this isn't a great idea, but that's not the question) With Panther, plaintext passwords worked fine. Snooping, I see the plain text password and username go through. With Tiger, we first had to apply

samba4 openldap
I see that samba4 will have it's own LDAP database. How will the support for OpenLDAP be? if anyone knows. Will I have the option to use OpenLDAP still for all the new features so as to be able to use current apps that use OpenLDAP already? If anyone has info regarding this, it would be appreciated. Thanks. Caleb O'Connell

windows print migrator + "add printer command"
Hi all. I was wondering if anyone had a successful exampel of using the "add printer command" with cups so that the windows print migrator could be utilised. Seeing as Jerry as spent time on this it would be a shame not to know how to use it. ;-) I'm guessing that it would be along the lines of: add printer command = lpadmin option1 option2 && cupsaddsmb option1 but

ldap machine suffix = ou=Computers vs ou=Users
There's a discussion of this from last month here: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-November/096287.html and here: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-November/096342.html read through the threads and you'll find your answers. HTH Geoff

sambaDomainName=DOMAIN for next free id
Hi, I'm following JHT's example doc off the web. I just applied a patch for the confiure.pl script for the smbldap-tools that John gave me. It now makes the sambaUnixIdPooldn object default to: cn=sambaDomainName=DOMAIN whereas the output of the configure.pl script given in Chapter 9 of the book is shown as: sambaDomainName=DOMAIN I now have the first version of the sambaUnixIdPooldn

Are the following cockups in ldap entries or normal behaviour now ?
