altering the "create mode" for samba shares
Hi, I'm Samba is a new thing for me and I hope my question will make
some sense!
I have created several samba shares listed in my smb.conf file and have
the option "create mode = 0660" set.
This is fine most of the time, however sometimes certain users create
files (for web pages) that they want to be
world-readable. How can I keep my default setting at 660, but have some

samba cross subnet
I have setup a fileserver (172.0.0.74) in the dmz and I would like the
internal network to be able to view it, (I also have a samba server on the
LAN) so I enabled wins made the appropriate changes to my dhcpd.conf file.
I cannot not see the server in my network neighborhood. Is there something
I'm forgetting ?
thx

smbmount and 2GB limit.
Hi,
I am mounting a windows 2000 share on a linux box (2.4.18) using smbmount
(2.2.2). I can create files >2Gb on both the systems, but I can't copy a
file >2Gb from the linux box over the smbmount. The file size limit is
exceeded and the "cp" command core-dumps.
Has anyone solved this problem?
I had installed the samba binary rpms; is there a patch-n-compile solution

Rookie Question
Rookie Question
When I try to add a client machine (Win2k) to the domain I receive the
following error message.
"Unknown user name or bad password."
It is asking for a user and password of a user with permission to join the
domain. So I use the following:
Username: root
Pass: secret.
Is it impossible to add a user to the domain using only the GUI of the
client pc?

disable guest print account
hi,
I have a pretty basic samba server installed on my Debian system. I use
samba 2.2.3a-7 for Debian. Everything seems to work just fine except
printing; Everyone is able to print (w2k clients) even though "guest ok =
no" is set. The print job is done by the guest user (nobody). How is this
possible when guest ok is set to no?
TIA

environement resides) I can transfers any files from my Linux box

Configuration Issues
Hi Folks,
I am a Samba newbie and needed some assistance with my configuration.
I am trying to run Samba 2.2.2 (on Solaris 8 Intel Version) downloaded from
Sunfreeware.com and have a Windows 2000 Professional box.
I believed I followed the directions in SAMBA-How-To carefully but cannot
get connection from a DOS prompt. When I run the command below from my UNIX
box, here is what I get: The

Win2K and Samba
Has anyone tried using Windows 2000 Professional with Samba? I'm
checking it out now, and when I try to connect to a share, I get an
error message similiar to the one you get with Win98 and NT4 with SP3+
with encrypted passwords.
Does anyone know the equivelant registry path to set plain text passwords? The NT4 path doesn't seem to exist:

Loosing Samba Shares Across Segments
I have two Samba servers configure similarly. One shares fine across our
entire network and the other only works within its own segment. I have
poured over the smb.conf files and cannot see what it preventing the one
from crossing segments. These both are Debian 2.2 boxes and I am just
modifying the default smb.conf files. I am hoping a fresh pair of eyes will
help. Any help would be greatly

I will pay you $10US (via Paypal) out of my own pocke t if you can solve this CUPS & Samba problem.
Nope, doesn't work, and I need the drivers to be available and read from the
linux server. The PPD files do contain one which is specific to my printer
and has worked on another machine.
