On the whole I'm very fuzzy about the Authentication subject and encryption
as well. Are there some good documents for background reading (apart from
the ones found in the .../samba-1.9.17p4/docs directory.

...ll software from pkg again.
Oh, and let?s also talk about how FreeBSD has been training people to run services via direct /etc/rc.d/$service script calls, but now you must use rc-service calls, with no graceful fallback. Got scripts calling the old style scripts? Too bad.

OT: systemd Poll - So Long, and Thanks for All the fish.
...======
There are several responses siting poor documentation but I can't fault
the documentation; there's plenty of it and the man pages are quite well
structured - man -k --names-only systemd
Also, there's a lot of people moving to FreeBSD - but it appears that
the grass isn't greener there either as they are now trialling OpenRC.
One issue I resolved quickly after installing CentOS 7 was to revert to
ethx for interface names and to install iptables and remove firewalld.
The other occassional issue I have is where restarting services takes a
seriously long time and I've...

I saw this post - and am wondering if anyone else has had a chance yet to download the two source files and try it out. Queuing of work

Hot to configure Samba 3 as PDC and BDC for a Windows network

I hoping someone out there might be able to tell my how to configure and Samba

wrr question
Guys
All the recent discussions recently, and the knowledge of a 2.6 port,
of WRR has made me very keen on trying it. I had a look at the docs
and examples know but my mind is not in a very receptive state.
Take this simple example.
Incoming internet connection of 1mbps. Shared between up to 25 users
simultaneously.
I know that WRR can fairly distribute the traffic amongst the

The time has come to expand my OpenSolaris NAS.
Right now I have 6 1TB Samsung Spinpoints in a Raidz2 configuration. I also have a mirrored root pool.
The Raidz2 configuration should be for my most critical data - but right now it is holding everything so I need to add some more pools and move some data around.
To start I need a vdev I will call "temp" that acts as a networked bit

How to load load multiple text files and order by id
Hello R users,
I am fairly new to R and was hoping you could point me in the right
direction I have a set of text files (36).
Each file has only two columns (id and count) , I am trying to figure out a
way to load all the files together and
then have them ordered by id into a matrix data frame. For example
If each txt file has :
ID count

id_00003 3

OT: systemd Poll
According to "Arthur Schopenhauer":
"All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."
I must admit that I skipped through the first and second stages - I
never found creating init scripts a joy and instead opted to write my
own scripts that I launched via inittab. As

zvol (slow) vs file (fast) performance snv_130
Hello,
I was doing performance testing, validating zvol performance in particularly, and found that zvol write performance to be slow ~35-44MB/s at 1MB blocksize writes. I then tested the underlying zfs file system with the same test and got 121MB/s. Is there any way to fix this? I really would like to have compatible performance between the zfs filesystem and the zfs zvols.

wxruby, XRC, DialogBlock
I''ve been trying to figure out the best method for generating GUI''s with
Ruby. I ended up using DialogBlock because it seems like the fastest
way. But not I have to work backwards and have not done this before.
How do I go from the file I generate in DialogBlock to a code in Ruby?

I have an Asus A8V-MX motherboard with an AMD Athlong 64 X2 3800+ CPU
and I'm trying to run powerd to keep it cooler/quieter/greener.
I'm running -STABLE (6.1-RC) cvsup'ed a couple of days ago, with a
kernel config that consists of the SMP sample plus an atapicam
device.
I'm loading the cpufreq.ko module in /boot/loader.conf.
I've attached my dmesg output and sysctl -a output from just after a
fresh reboot.

zfs list improvements?
To improve the performance of scripts that manipulate zfs snapshots and the zfs snapshot service in perticular there needs to be a way to list all the snapshots for a given object and only the snapshots for that object.
There are two RFEs filed that cover this:
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6352014 :
''zfs list'' should have an option to only present direct
