We use local (!) GPOs on our Win2k clients with great success:
- log on to "master" workstation as administrator
- create a link to the "C:\WINNT\system32\GroupPolicy" folder on your

gpedit.msc as centralized policy for 2k/xp clients in domain
I found this from
http://charon.minilab.bdeb.qc.ca/anonym/nt/2000/ads/TTGW2KGP_Vol1through4.pdf
I would like to figure out how to do this gpedit.msc+AD+gpc+gpt magic for
win2k/xp with linux+samba(2.2/3.0/tng)+openldap and is it possible at all?
Thanks.

Windows XP Profile-Samba 3
Hi,

box using GPEDIT like restricting the access to control panel, desktop

I have tried this on a test machine on which I have applied local
policies withthe gpedit.msc console (ie : Delete the roaming profiles or
hide the logon scripts...) and this work perfectly.
Now I'd like to do the same on other

James,
I configured the account lockout policies by RSAT, GPEDIT.MSC.
By GPEDIT.MSC I set the value = 10 attempts.
Through the samba-tool, I used this command:

windows shortcut for "Group Policy Editor"
Hey all,
according to the whitepaper http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc736591%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
I would like to a windows shortcut on the desktop that allows me to open and run the "Group Policy Editor"
*for my samba4/AD domain*.
The shortcut command should be:

Should I upgrade Samba 3.6 to Samba 4.1
Hi,
I just installed Samba on my Centos 6.4 computer. Smbstatus says my
version is 3.6.9-151.el6-4.1.
My smb.conf file only has a [global] and [homes] section.
My configuration works, as expected, from a Win7 Virtual Box computer
and a Win8 Virtual Box computer. I can see the share from the Windows
file explorer and can map the share to a network drive. The Samba server
is not virtual.

my last post was about upscale configuration for my WinXP clients,
because I believed I had it working, but ...
Next day I booted the client and .... it wouldnt let me log onto the
domain again. :-(
I am using Samba 2.2.8a with Ldap backend which works great in workgroup
mode.
Joining the domain is very easy and works well, but then after rebooting
I get:

Using user policies with samba3 and windows 2000
Hello!
We are using samba3-3.0.2a-30 as a PDC.
Everything is working fine, but now we would like to use user policies.
As I learned that can be done by the ntuser.pol file in the 'profiles'
user sub directory on the PDC.
So her is what i already tried:
1.) Set up a test Window$ 2000 Client and get it into the Domain
2.) Log in as Administrator
3.) Start gpedit.msc (and change

ntconfig.pol for samba3.5.6+openldap+Win7
Hi all,
All clients are Win 7.
How can I transmit rules defined in gpedit for users (for example
forbid execution of regedit) to the Default User roaming profile?
Is it done with a ntconfig.pol ? If yes, how can I make it ?
Thanks

Hi,
Samba: samba-3.0.21

I built a new WinXP (sp2 and fully updated) box with the the idea of
making a Default User profile. I followed the directions in the "Making
Happy Users" section of the Samba-3 By Example guide.
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold
Folder redirection is working, using the

Any possibility to apply policies on WinXP machines using samba 3.2.3 ?
In samba documentation in :
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/PolicyMgmt.html
There is references to apply policies in NT/2000 Server and winxp

samba 3.2.3+winxp machines.

AFAIK gpedit just write to the DC with FSMO role by default.

Missing features in RSAT Group Policy Manager (Debian as Samba PDC)
I have been testing a Debian 11 (i386) server with samba
2:4.13.13+dfsg-1~deb11u5 running as an Active Directory Controller. This is
a stand-alone DC, meant for user authentication for a small business
network. I use RSAT Features on Windows 11 Pro to manage Users, Groups,
Machines etc., which works fine.
I would like create a new GPO using the RSAT Group Policy Manager to change

I'm looking for some extremely general tips/hints/ideas here, because I
am sure that I may be missing out on some good ways of managing the
Windows PCs on my network.
This is what I have and what is available to me:
- Samba 3.0.x (current Debian/Sarge version)
- LDAP backend for Samba
- Windows XP SP2 clients
- Domain users are typically unprivileged users
