Null models of species co-occurrence
...erns using null models and the oecosimu() function within the vegan() package. My issue is that none of the methods appear to be the ones that I want. The methods listed are r0, r1, r2, r2dtable, swap, tswap. However, I want to know how to go about implementing fixed row algorithms, as suggested in Gotelli 2000 in Ecology. Also, the null models created seem to be incredibly dependent on the 1) burnin and 2) thin values. These are the 1) Number of null communities discarded before proper analysis in sequential methods "swap" and "tswap" and 2) Number of discarded null communities...

rarefaction variance
...to reproduce the equation here because it's complex and I don't know how to render it readibly in ASCII characters, but if anyone wishes a faxed copy I'll gladly provide one. If you have Krebs _Ecological_Methodology_ it's on page 415 of the second edition. It's on page 27 of Gotelli and Graves _Null_Models_in_Ecology_, and in lots of other references as well. The problem is not the calculations of binary coefficients (combinatorials) per se-- I use lgamma(x+1) to do it with logs of factorials-- but rather the 1-(quotient of combinatorials) term in the first summation which fo...

to check if a group of values is randomly distributed
Dear list, I have 603 numbers depicting range sizes of birds in Japan. I would like to learn if the 603 range sizes are randomly distributed or not, in order to check if they meet mid-domain effects. Please kindly advise if any R package or function can check the fit. Also, any more references are highly appreciated. Thank you Elaine [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

R forum for only Statistics
Hi! I wish to know if there is any R forum which is meant only for Statistics? I mean where we can clarify our statistics doubts and seek knowledge. I know there are lot many books and internet sites, but 'R forum' has altogether different standard and very high level and one can learn a lot from them.
