Is it just me, or is Ruby exploding?
...olutely explosive growth
in Ruby, Rails and all things Web 2.0ish right now?
I see that Bruce Eckel is coming around. When he wrote his article
bashing Ruby a few weeks ago, I knew he was on the verge of being
hooked. First you hate her, then you glance at her, then you are in
her arms. Ruby, that goddamn seductress!

BUILTIN\Administrators - failed to call wbcSidToUid: WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND
...lassic upgrade scripts to have
option of not copying of GIDs to "default" groups?
I think it should be enough. migration script copy members of that
groups but skip copying of GIDs.Not for us, it will be difficult to fix
our domain (but I believe that amazing guys here help me to fix that
goddamn BUILTIN Admins;)), but for another people who will migrate S3
NT4 domain to S4 AD.

Patch : Fix one more Linux PowerPC problem
...eve C++ instills fear in programmers, fear that the interaction
of some details causes unpredictable results. Its unmanageable complexity
has spawned more fear-preventing tools than any other language, but the
solution _should_ have been to create and use a language that does not
overload the whole goddamn human brain with irrelevant details."

Config file semantics.
Personally, I find that indenting config files by 3 spaces has a lot of
advantages to indenting them by 4 spaces although conventional wisdom
might suggest otherwise. Who's with me on this?

Model? I have a situation where I want a piece of validation to run on
edits, but not on new creates.
Thanks,

Installing Oracle
This is pretty ugly.
I''m using puppet to install Oracle, ie an exec{} wrapped around:
/u01/oracle_extract/linux.x64_11gR2_database/database/runInstaller
-silent -responseFile /etc/oracle_response.rsp
The problem is that the damn installer backgrounds itself and returns
control to the shell. I tried putting the above command in a script,
followed by a wait command, but that

You got some 'splaininn to do Lucy ;-)
We just had a security application vendor come in. We asked about Linux
support and he said that putting a security application on top of an
insecure OS was useless. When I asked what he meant by insecure he replied
that Linux does not have a true Auditing capability - as opposed to HP-UX &
Solaris which they do support. Can anyone explain to me what he was talking
about?
Thanks,

ADSI phone vs. IP phone
Assuming the price of an ADSI screen phone (say, Aastra 390) was the same
as an IP screen phone (say, Cisco 7960) and someone was setting up an *
server for their 20 employees (each of whom would have either an ADSI or IP
phone on their desk), would there be advantages to using the ADSI phones
over the IP phones, or vice-versa? For discussion, let's assume that the
hardware needed to

Fax
Hi all !
Let's say you have about 6 small different companies sharing the same E1
/ Asterisk server, and every company needs its own fax number. Since
they don't really need fax machines, what would be the most
cost-effective way to handle this (keeping fax-privacy at its best) ?
Is there a way to configure Hylafax or sth & one modem behind an ATA-186
to email faxes to different

Mdk 9.1, samba-LDAP 2.2.8a/3.0b3 (LDAP) can't print to z53
I've not been able to get Samba to print to a Lexmark Z53.
If I call it a Z52, the driver uploads (to where, I have no idea so I
can't check it) but I still can't get anything out of the printer.

what is the correct way to stop/start a mongrel instance using monit with mongrel cluster
Hi --
I have been reading documentation and googling around to find the
correct way to do this but I have found many ways that seem to not
work, or the documentation makes no reference to.
I am using mongrel cluster with 10 mongrels for each server. Recently
I installed monit but which lead me to find the correct way to
start/stop mongrel instances one pid at a time. I am assuming one pid

Does anybody knows how to make the game run?
It installs just fine, but won't run.
I have been searching all over the web to find a solution, but not haven't found a single webpage or thread about it?
