Samba Domain Member Server -- tdbsam/winbind/idmap_rid -- file ownership ?
I have just struggled to implement a Samba Domain Server, and have some remaining issues. I have a Samba PDC using tdbsam, managing a domain called RHEA. I have (finally) configured a new Samba Domain Server (AUREUS) using winbind and idmap_rid. When I am logged in to RHEA as user GMCH I can access a TMP share on AUREUS (at last). Running 'getent passwd' I get (inter alia): RHEA\gmch:*:12000:10513:.... and 'getent group' gives: RHEA\domain users:*:1053:RHEA\gmch:... When I create files on TMP I find that they are owned by 'root' and in the gro...

How does UDMA mode get set?
Hi all, I have been tracking -STABLE on one of my home machines for a little while, now and noticed something the other day. I was given this system, and I have only run FreeBSD-STABLE on it. The motherboard is a Supermicro370SWD with an Intel 810 "Whitney" chipset (82810DC100 GMCH + 82801AA ICH). The docs say that there is support for UDMA66, but FreeBSD reports that the drive is being set to UDMA33. I booted in verbose mode, and here are the relevant parts from dmesg. atapci0: <Intel ICH ATA66 controller> port 0xffa0-0xffaf at device 31.1 on pci0 ata0: iobase=0x01f...

[ANNOUNCE] xf86-video-intel 2.20.16
Rejoice! We have found a trick to make 830gm/845g stable at long last. Ever since the switch to GEM and dynamic video memory, those early second generation chipsets have been plagued by instability. The lack of flushing cachelines from the CPU to GMCH was eventually solved by using an undocmented bit, but 830/845 were still hanging under memory pressure. These deaths were all due to garbage finding its way into the command streamer, and they go away if we take a leaf out of the original driver and never reuse those pages for anything else. So fo...

Survey: SYSLINUX: 2.13 works, 3.0x don't
Okay, this applies particularly to SYSLINUX, not ISO/PXE/EXTLINUX. If you have a system on which 2.13 boots and 3.0x don't, I would like to get as much information as possible about it. In particular, I would like to know: - What device are you booting from (floppy, USB, IDE harddrive...) - Motherboard manufacturer/model - CPU manufacturer/model (a dump of /proc/cpuinfo would

[PATCH] hvmloader / qemu-xen: Getting rid of resource conflict for OpRegion.
This is hvmloader part of the change that gets rid of the resource conflict warning in the guest kernel. The OpRegion may not always be page aligned. As a result one extra page is required to fully accommodate the OpRegion in that case. Just reserve one more page here. RELENG_7 jerky mouse and skipping sound
I just updated to RELENG_7 from 6.2 and I'm running into some really annoying issues with jerky mouse movement and skipping sound. This seems to be similar to: Re: SCHED_4BSD in RELENG_7 disturbs workflow This happens both with 4BSD and ULE. I seems to happen when I'm compiling ports and a new cc/bzip2/sh process fires off (I'm just watching top), I'll get the skip/freezeup.
