glitchy sound with steam (half-life 2) under intrepid
I upgraded my machine from Ubuntu Hardy to Intrepid and now I get stuttering audio. I'm running the closed-source nvidea driver and a realtime kernel, like before the upgrade. Any ideas as to how I can speed up audio? -- David Griffith dgriffi at cs.csubak.edu A: Because it fouls the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? OpenMPT can use VSTs, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't use ASIO.

Installing R on Ubuntu ( 8.10 ) ?
installing on Ubuntu, how to do it and have people found it to be glitchy? which is easier , binary install or from source ? With the source install, are you less likely to have a dependencies issue ? ( Ubuntu does the GCC install seamlessly, but has no mention of R )

Answering the Hydrogen Audio thread
Take a look at how the Opus Tools package handles it. So far as I remember, it requires minimal changes to the file(s) containing references to the main entry point and to fopen. It imports the command line arguments as wchar_t and converts them to UTF-8, and has replacement functions for fopen and some text output that accept UTF-8 instead of ANSI. I think it automatically kicks in on definition

Wine 1.2 breaking VSTs, making unusable/glitchy. these plugins have been platinum for a long time :( now are almost useless
hi, I posted about a week ago, when i had updated to wine1.2-rc6. I had warned that i had seen regressions in wine. This applied to Commercial VST instruments that i have been using in linux for about 2 years. At first, when using Jack-audio-connection kit (after the upgrade) i began to notice certain plugins were now causing Xruns, when they started up. this never used to happen. so i posted.

Draggable performance issues
Using the script.aculo.us Draggables, I''m noticing they are a bit less than fast. I drag them around on the screen and they jump and glitch to catch up with the mouse. Has anyone else noticed this, and are there any optimizations that have been identified that I can apply? I''m using v. 1.5 Sincerely, Ryan Gahl Design Engineer Camtronics Medical Systems (an Emageon

Really Slow Effects
Hi, Please check out http://rixth.org/index.php (you can login with username mr password mouse). Create a todo list, then press ''open''. Add a few items (after about 8, is when it happens to me) then click close. THe animation is not very smooth for me, it only displays about 3 frames. This is not because it is pushing a lot of content down (look at the scriptalucous wiki effects

couple of questions
Hi folks A couple of questions: 1) I seem to get funny artifacts in the display of TreeCtrl, ComboBox and ListBox when the MDI child frame containing it is first painted (see attached - it should be two-root treeview, unopened). I''m not sure if it''s related to being in a MDI, but the controls sample looks OK. The artifacts are cleared up when it''s repainted or

--timeout=... lesson learned...
I thought other might benefit from this lesson learned and thought it maybe should be added to the man-pages. I thought my network connection was glitchy and hence set rsync up for --timeout=120 but I found out that I was actually causing the glitch with this script: #! /bin/sh - while true; do rsync -avz --progress --timeout=120 --delete /media/rsync_gb01/movies/ myserver:movies; sleep 120; done

Building an On-Site and Off-Size ZFS server, replication question
Good morning. I am in the process of planning a system which will have 2 ZFS servers, one on site, one off site. The on site server will be used by workstations and servers in house, and most of that will stay in house. There will, however, be data i want backed up somewhere else, which is where the offsite server comes in... This server will be sitting in a Data Center and will have some storage

Remove viewer for Mac desktop
Hi. I have a couple of Mac?s I use (a MBP 15? and a Mac mini), but I have a stack of Linux KVM/Qemu hosts (Centos 7.5) running various VM?s (Ubuntu, Fedora, Win7, Win10, etc). Currently I ssh in with tunneling for X, and let the VNC client draw remotely on XQuartz. It?s reasonably fast on my 1Gb network, but glitchy (hangs, pointer location being wrong, spurious keyboard repeats, refreshing the

Answering the Hydrogen Audio thread
My worry is more around metadata handling and parsing commandline input. You can't pass UTF-8 in setlocale on windows (from the docs: "If you provide a code page like UTF-7 or UTF-8, setlocale will fail, returning NULL."). There is a good chance that the behavior will still be correct with UTF-8 strings even when in the "C" locale, but I'm not entirely sure. If so,

Any special kernel patches for good S100U performance?
Hi, I've added an S100U to my * setup. I've tried it using both uhci and usb-uhci USB driver modules. I both cases the audio is occasionally glitchy. In addition, usb-uhci complains Apr 18 19:06:21 bob kernel: usb-uhci.c: iso_find_start: gap in seamless isochronous scheduling uhci.o doesn't log this error, but the glitches still occur. Perhaps there are some latency patches or
