Absolute ceiling on R's memory usage = 4 gigabytes?
Hello. By way of background, I am running out of memory when attempting to normalize the data from 160 affymetrix microarrays using justRMA (from the affy package). This is despite making 6 gigabytes of swap space available on our sgi irix machine (which has 2 gigabytes of ram). I have seen in various discussions statements such as "you will need at least 6 gigabytes of memory to normalize

Gigabyte motherboards and Syslinux
I read the mailing list archive about Gigabyte motherboards not working
with USB booting ("[syslinux] Gigabyte recent bios & syslinux extlinux
trow USB-IDE bridges or pendrives", 16 Aug 2006).
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H motherboard that I tried to boot in
USB-HDD mode with a PNY boot pen. I installed System Rescue CD on it.
It would appear that Gigabyte still doesn't

is "Gb" gigabyte or gigabit?
I sometimes get errors of this form:
Error: cannot allocate vector of size 13.8 Gb
I've also seen "Gb" used in R documents. Is "Gb" being used to refer to
gigabyte? We usually refer to bytes and gigabytes when discussing memory
usage, but the lowercase "b" more often refers to bits. According to

[LLVMdev] Linking clang.exe takes more than two hours?
Hi,
I'm building using MINGW64 on a very slow system (Intel Atom 330 X2 1.6
GHz), but it seems rather odd that the system has been linking clang.exe
for the past two hours. It appears that a couple of gigabytes of virtual
memory are being used (causing constant swapping) - the system has only 2
GB of physical memory.
Is this a bug in MINGW64 (binutils 2.22) or is it just too little RAM in

Hello,
I notice a bug in syslinux 6.01 ( bios version ) when I install it in a
USB flash drive ( FAT32 partition ) and when I want to boot this USB
flash drive with a gigabyte motherboard ( GA-P31-DS3L ),
I setup my usb flash drive ( 4 Gb ) like this in windows XP :
syslinux.exe -m -a -i -d /boot/syslinux H:
then I create a syslinux.cfg menu and I add these files : chain.c32
libcom32.c32

Motherboard capable of VT-d
Hi!
I''ve got a motherboard (Gigabyte GA-G33-DS3R) where the Ethernet port has
been broken.
I''ll buy a new motherboard, but wants to keep all my other equipment (CPU,
Memory, TV-cards etc).
The requirements/wishes on the new motherboard are 2 Ethernet ports and 2
PCI slots. It would also be good if it would support VT-d.
I''ve found two boards that would fulfill my

Enabling Gigabyte HVM
As a follow up to this post
http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2007-07/msg00476.html
I have ZenEnterprise 4.0.1 and Virtual Iron 3.7.2 running Windows guests
on my GA M61P S3. To enable the AMD-V hardware virtualization
capabilities on my Gigabyte motherboard:
* install the Gigabyte bios version F2 dated Dec 2006 (download
from Gigabyte support site) and expand out

First Gigabyte bios with virtualization support available
Hi folks,
after all this struggle with Gigabyte''s Tech-Support and self-modified
bioses it seems Gigabyte reconsidered making Virtualization-Support
available for the masses.
The F6-bios for the GA-M61P-S3 rev 1.0 Motherboard is hopefully the
beginning (not a mistake) and others will follow.
Thanks to all the people writing to the Gigabyte-Tech-Support making
this reconsideration

Centos 5.3 install on gigabyte GA-MA790FX-UD5P motherboard
Hi,
I am having some difficulties installing centos 5.3 on the gigabyte GA-MA790FX-UD5P motherboard.
Has anyone got centos booting on this motherboard?
so far I have tried the following.
+ disabled the jmicron controller as this caused errors on booting
JMB363 bad irq(0): will probe later error (this error caused the installation to stop at this point)
+ tested all components in another

SATA on Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 MB
Hi Gang!
I've got this (now old) Gigabyte motherboard (GA-7N400 Pro2), I've had it
for just over 3 years.
I use it, so far, with only PATA devices.
I'm toying with the idea of buying a matched pair of SATA drives and when
I install Centos 5 (hopefully soon), building it with software raid (using
the two drives as mirrors of each other).
Now, I wouldn't have ever even thought of

Best Motherboard
To all..
I was using a Gigabyte motherboard, and the board seems like a bad choice.
What do you guys recommend for a decent server board that would use a Dual
Core processor and DDR2 ram. I dont want to replace the CPU and Mem i
already have, just find a decent board that supportsthe existing..
Thanks,
Ryan Nichols

Syslinux Aarch64 porting
Hi,
Is there any information available on porting Syslinux to 64bit ARM?
Specifically, I have a Cavium ThunderX board (Gigabyte R120-T30) which
boots using UEFI - b2b.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5864#ov
I'd be very interested in getting this to work, as currently the only
option for booting on this platform is Grub 2 or EFI Stub. If anyone can
point me in the right

bug in syslinux 6.01 with gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L
Hello,
I didn't try 6.02-pre15, I will do and I will post the results,
my keyboard is a PS/2 model, the "legacy USB storage option" is enabled,
I tried also an USB keyboard but there is no change, so it's not a
keyboard problem, it probably something in syslinux ( ldlinux.sys ? )
who create a serious bug with my motherboard,
I tried also with a USB HDD ( not a flash drive )
