Evil Genius Crashes unexpectedly
Hey there! I've been playing Evil Genius on steam and for the most part it works fine, but frequently (sometimes more frequently than others) it crashes at very inopportune times. The wine page for the game talks about unexpected crashes, but it sounds like these are related to the game autosaving, and I turned off my autosaving yet this persists. Here's what my terminal (The first bit

Faking system time
Hello all. I am trying to use WINE to make a windoze-only development environment (very rudimentar, command line cross-compiler and stuff) under Linux, because GNU make is far superior from the M$'s 'nmake'. Anyway, I have some trouble with expirating licenses and stuff, and the solution is to revert the system date back to some valid thing and then compile. Since I am now running

[LLVMdev] Summer of Code 2009 "Support for an ELF writer"
Hello So how did it happen that the only project which was a candidate for libJIT Summer of Code in GNU, with the same title got selected in LLVM? Does it mean that the same genius idea came to two minds? Thanks, Kirill -- http://code.google.com/p/libjit-linear-scan-register-allocator/

You can't get there from here
Having been accomodating about it in the past, the technical geniuses at Comcast have permanently blocked port 25, separating me (at my home office) from my employer's e-mail server. What can be done on the server side to keep Postfix listening on 25 _and_ accept my connections on some other port? Is there a Postfix solution? iptables maybe? Miark

ComGenius application holding us from migrating 100% to linux
Hi There, In my company we have almost done a complete Microsoft -> Linux migration within the last year! The only thing I need, is to get an application running through Wine! The application is called "COM genius" and is used to upload codes to universal remote controls! - I've failed in getting it to run in Wine, and haven't found a linux alternative (guess this

So I went here:

Thoughts for you geniuses
Situation -- Samba 2.2.5, RedHat Linux 8.0 Domain -- W2K AD After boot, I can go into Network Neighborhood, and I can see the name of the computer. When I double click on it it's unaccessible. Also, I can't see the network from the Linux box, I can ping it all, but I can't see it. Where is the "network neighborhood" in Linux? Also, the big question... I need, (upon

Windows Vista Issues
This is a repost of a simple question about Windows Vista and R (with answer), along with a heads-up on other Windows Vista issues that people may not be aware of and that may impact R development. 1. The standard package install process fails because the user does not have permission to write to Program Files/R/R-version/library. Apparently the install process has already been modified to give

proposing $E & $T
Hey all, I''ve had these functions for some time now, and would like to offer them as two new dollar-sign functions - elements to be extended by Prototype geniuses. :-) makeText(string) as $T() - return text node element Does just what it says... I''m sure someone could extend it nicely when via Prototype. (example) var x = $T(''hello world''); xElement(tagname) as $E() - return DOM element * return element, when tagname is a strin...

Mapstraction V2 Geocoder?
Hey all, I''m wondering about your thoughts on upgrading the Geocoder to use Mapstraction V2. Currently it uses the old syntax (i.e., for LatLonPoint, etc.): http://mapstraction.appspot.com/#geocoding Moving from V1 to V2 is fairly simple changes to the code. However, I wonder whether we want to update the way the geocoder is structured, as well? Some options: 1) Roll geocoding

hosting multiple apps
I am considering creating a web interface for system administration, but it would need a plug-in architecture, adding new UIs as new services are added. I''m thinking about doing this with multiple Rails applications, and I''m curious as to whether mongrel can most multiple apps in a single instance, as opposed to running one for each. Is this possible? Thanks, Mike -- Michael P.

Current process for tickets
This afternoon I was looking at the tickets posted in Trac, and I saw that there we quite a few stale tickets and patches. A lot of these are filed against very old versions of Rails, I think it''s fair for the people posting these tickets that they get resolved. Either by just removing them all or by weeding them out. I understand that closing tickets is not very glamorous work

(no subject)
I just ran across this myself. I guess I dont understand why there needs to be machine names in /etc/passwd if you are storing everything in LDAP. Am I missing a configuration option here? Can one of you samba geniuses point me in the right direction please? Thank you! >I have exactly the same bug. Modifying Model Output
Hi! I''m a very-very new Ruby-on-Rails user even if I have some experience with other Languages (mostly PHP, so this is my first real object-oriented language) My problem, newbie-ish as it is, is the following: I have a model, Article, that returns Articles from the DB. Now, when a certain field of the model (the intro text) contains no data, I want to fill it with a truncated
