debian 6 squeeze / xen 4 / ganeti troubles
hi community, after installing (debian 6) squeeze, roughly following the installation guide on the xen (and ganeti) websites (using the aptitude pm for xen4 and genati2) i have run into a very strange ?bug? - ?annoyance? on my main node (xeon e5506 on a supermicro X8DTL-i). while booting up the system with the xen 4 boot wrapper, the sequence suddenly stops for what seems to be "no reason" ... the f...

How to boot Ubuntu 9.04(Jaunty) or Debian Lenny (vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-686-bigmem) as domU under Lenny''s vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-xen-686 as dom0. PVM''s initrd issue
Hello, I guess it possible distro specific issue but is it resolvable? I have one node(testing purpose) ganeti 2.0.1 cluster installed over Debian5 Lenny. Almost everything from distro repositories. Only ganeti 2.0.1 and ganeti-debootstrap are from sources. I have it successful run with vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-xen-686 and initrd.img-2.6.26-2-xen-686 from repositories. Both Dom0 and DomU are use the same kernel a...

Guest to Host communication
Hi, My name is Jose and I work at Google on the Ganeti project. I am using Xen 4.0. I would like to ask your advice on what you think is the best way to send data between the guest and the host, for example, the guest OS tells Ganeti that it wants to be reinstalled at reboot time. Even a simple integer suffices for our purposes. We have considered a...

Introducing snf-image-creator
Hello all, I'd like to introduce to you snf-image-creator, an OS image creation tool that makes heavy use of libguestfs. We have been developing it for almost 3 years and use it with the Synnefo[1] open source IaaS cloud software and also with Google's Ganeti[2] cluster management software. However it is completely independent from the above solutions and can be used as a generic image creation tool too. It comes in two variants: * snf-image-creator: A user-friendly dialog-based program * snf-mkimage: A non-interactive command-line program Unlike Oz...

Grub options for dom0
Hello guys, I am setting up dom0. I have read that is recommended restricting one cpu for dom0. In the xen wiki there''s a list of grub parameters http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_Hypervisor_Boot_Options but it seems deprecated? http://groups.google.com/group/ganeti/browse_thread/thread/a18979bdd00f6461 Do you guys use this option (maxcpus) as shown here as well? http://www.indiangnu.org/2009/how-to-disable-cores-of-cpu/ Do you need to modify /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp accordingly to what''s been set on grub? What other options related with grub shal...

Synnefo open source cloud stack, now available for CentOS
Hello everybody, we are happy to announce that since v0.15.1, Synnefo is available for the CentOS distribution via our official RPM packages. For those unfamiliar with Synnefo [1], it is a complete open source cloud platform built on top of Google Ganeti [2], with OpenStack APIs. Synnefo is written in Python from scratch. CentOS is the first RPM-based distro officially supported, and for CentOS 6.5 we have the first step by step installation guide. Please find the official announcement, along with links to our yum repository and documentation, he...

libguestfs and exporting to OVA/OVF
...ce for such a tool would be something like disk2ova --memory 2G --controller sata --network E1000 myDiskImage.{raw,qcow2} based on the command line switches, a XML ovf would be created and packed with the disk image in a OVA file. There is some python code around which does that, for example the ganeti export code and imagefactory https://github.com/redhat-imaging/imagefactory/blob/master/imagefactory_plugins/ovfcommon/ovfcommon.py#L69 but nothing available as a standalone tool. I am afraid I can only contribute Perl code. Emmanuel

observations on XCP
...ey feel comfortable with it? Could anybody add any comments to this bug about migration strategy? Should people anticipate using CentOS for dom0 systems in future? Or just stick with Xen-API on wheezy (which will still be around and subject to security updates through to 2016)? Or move to KVM or Ganeti or something else? It would be interesting to see a comparison of the options, and the impact on things like OpenStack packaging, even if there is no clear solution for all users. It sounds like Xen-API is at risk of ending up like FreeSWITCH and other products that are unpackagable (a common pro...

Debian Virtualization Overview at FOSDEM
...f the virtualizations stuff available in Debian, especially the new things coming into appearance in Lenny and sid since I gave the similar talk at last year's debconf. It's happening in the Debian developers room. For that, I will also do some testing about the dom0 Kernel stuff, libvirt, ganeti and other things... if there is an area where testing is especially needed, more important then the ones mentioned, let me know - as well as if you have some very hot news you'd like to let other developers know about the xen packaging team... Xen tools
...ed on Xen, I should be able to just install a base install of CentOS and use a third party management client to get all (most?) of the functionality of the XenServer without having to be limited to 4GB of RAM. Can someone recommend tools that I can use to manage the Xen hosts? I see there is Ganeti, but that seems to be linux only. I would prefer a windows or a web client, as I intend to have the actual Xen hosts be as stripped down installation as possible. As far as being able to utilize 8GB in CentOS do I need to install the x86_64 version, or is there some sort of AWE support? I re...
