Problems with SMBCLIENT
Hi all, I am running SunOS 5.5.1 and am getting all sorts of problems. I am urgently in need of help. My Unix skills are limited. My first problem is starting the daemons. bind failed on port 139 socket_addr=0 (Address already in use) My second problem is the difference in the number of files dumped with either smbtar or smbclient. Here is the command that gives me the most problems. Notice

The Sims
I have a copy of the Sims installed on a Win2k FAT32 partition. I know for a fact that The Sims works under Wine (Mandrake's "Gamer" edition), but I get an error when I try to run it. The error is as follows: "Game cannot be started because: There is not enough memory or hard drive space to run. Exit now." I do have plenty of free space and plenty of memory. Does

Mumble gamers' VOIP server (murmur)
I was unable to build the whole Mumble system on CentOS but it's available for Fedora Development. I just wanted the server part on my headless server, and a static build is available from the Mumble project on Sourceforge. So I grabbed the Mumble SRPM from Fedora Development, the static build from Sourceforge, and stripped the spec file down to the minimum needed to just install the

Fitting a cumulative gaussian
Dear R-Experts, I was wondering how to fit a cumulative gaussian to a set of empirical data using R. On the R website as well as in the mail archives, I found a lot of help on how to fit a normal density function to empirical data, but unfortunately no advice on how to obtain reasonable estimates of m and sd for a gaussian ogive function. Specifically, I have data from a psychometric function

Tell me the truth about WINE
I'm an avid gamer, I play all kinds of games and a wide variety of specific titles, be they on the A-list or B-list. How realistic would it be for a person like me to rely solely on WINE for PC gaming? I understand that the pace with which WINE can catch up is relatively quick (a few months), but a few months is still a long time to wait if I'm itching to get started on a new release. I

2 lists?
I use Wine occasionally for programs that are Win-centric, but I don't play games. It seems like a very large portion of the posts to this list are regarding games. I am thereby suggesting that the list be divided into two, one list for serious users, and one for gamers. I would subscribe to only the serious list, obviously, and I would imagine that most of the gamers would subscribe only to the list that catered to their interests. --doug

Hackers on my Web server
I have discovered that a gamer has hacked into my web server through a backdoor left open by my predecessor. I have closed the door, but when I try to delete the folders left behind I receive "Access Denied", or when I try to take ownership I receive "Unable to Find File...". I have removed most of the files to obtain enough space to continue operations but would like to remove

4.8-Stable DummyNet
Hi. We just opened a gaming center and have chosen to run a FreeBsd box for our firewall. IPFW is configured at it's very basic running natd through rl0 and allowing any to any connections from the lan to the outer world. Natd controls access to the lan. We have a 6.0 mb/s ADSL net connection for all the gaming clients to use, however if a gamer starts downloading a file, that file

ROR : Need help to finish a website related to Starcraft 2
...). So today i am looking for people interested in taking part in this project. I dont think its that much difficult of a task for people with knowledge in ROR and the interesting fact for developers is this website should encounter a fair success. (you will see your creation alive and used by many gamers!) I took the liberty to post this message here because its pretty hard to find people with knowledge in ROR. Anyway, thanks for your time and i would gladly answer your every question if you have some. Regards, Boris. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups...

Game is slower 2x than on Windows
Game named Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1972) ( MMO ) is slower on ANY linux and ANY wine version exactly 2 times . For example on Windows I have 40 fps and in same place 20 fps on wine, 20 fps in Windows and ~10 fps on linux. I was trying lot of "wine tricks" without any effect. I have also installed the most up

quality -> bitrate
...differences between what a gamer would consider as "good" and an audiophile would consider as "good", based on a long and glorious history of games short changing audio in most any fashion in order to save CPU and/or development time -- with a few notable exceptions, of course. Gamers would probably consider the speech compression good if their friends were still mostly intelligible -- assuming they were intelligible to begin with. They would consider the bit rate too high if there was a noticeable impact on the catch-all "lag", data transfer latencies on real time gam...

64-bit Linux benchmarks faster
http://www.tuxradar.com/content/ubuntu-904-32-bit-vs-64-bit-benchmarks Just a bit faster, but we'll have a lot of gamers and other such performance nerds here ;-) (This is talking about Linux itself being the 32-bit or 64-bit version, not whether Wine is set up to run 32-bit or 64-bit binaries.) I know Dan Kegel has frequently recommended on this list that unless you really need that much memory, you shouldn't...

I run: Ubuntu 6.04.01 desktop amd 64. I am desperate, because I am working on a project, and can't continue. Thanks in advance, Bram

dll files
I'm a recent convert to the Linux lifestyle, and I would like to get to a point where I rarely, if ever, have to boot into Windows on my machine. While I'm not a huge gamer, I do enjoy Final Fantasy XI. I would like to get it to run under Linux/Wine. According to the information from the AppDB, the only way to get FFXI working under Wine is to have a copy of the dxdiagn.dll from Windows
