syslinux vs grub
Okay, I'm going to ask the gajillion-dollar question...
I've been doing syslinux for 11 years now. From a very limited scope it
has since grown and is now a very advanced boot loader.
Unfortunately, it's not clear to me anymore to what extent the work I'm
doing is useful.
I personally dislike grub because of its mono...

Alternative to storing ActiveRecord object in session
I''m writing a wizard-like module in my application where, in a series
of steps, the user builds upon an ActiveRecord object, and in the end,
saves the AR object into the database. The ActiveRecord object is
fairly complex, with a has_many association that could potentially get
large, so I don''t want to store it directly in the session. In fact,
having done so already caused a

SYSLINUX 3.10-pre5
Please test this prerelease if you have a system on which 2.13 works but
3.0x doesn't. It's based on some of the stuff I have iterated back and
forth with Nazo. Huge thanks to Nazo for trying a gajillion experiments
and being very prompt returning results.

Generic fragment module?
Hello,
I''ve run across this several times now and I was wondering how other
people handle this. I would like to manage one or more fragments of
code or data in a file that has no real form to it. For instance, I
have about four or five different bits of code that go into /etc/
rc.local depending on how a system is configured. There''s no
structure to rc.local so Augeas

Merge strategy for klibc
...tures which don't have klibc ports yet.
Since I don't have access to them, I can't really do them, either.
It's usually a matter of an afternoon or less to port klibc to a
new architecture, though, if you have a working development
environment for it.
b. There are a gajillion options in the way Linux handles its root
filesystem. I have tried to implement them all, but I haven't been
able to test some of the more exotic conditions, mostly due to the
fact that every boot environment I set up takes a *lot* of time and
maintenance. This has in fact bee...

Experiences with RHN Satellite?
This is slightly off topic, and may just be tossing red meat to y''all,
but here goes:
My boss has RedHat coming in on Tuesday to give a spiel on RHN
Satellite. I''m dubious, as it seems mostly like a web UI wrapped
around a Yum repository system and a half-baked configuration
management system. I''m of the opinion that our time and money would
be better spent getting
