Model Inheritance, Mixins and Database design
I''m trying to understand how best to use inheritance and wonder if Rail''s Single Table Inheritance model too restricting. I have a model Companies who provide 1+ Services (HABTM relationship). I assume the best way to represent this is with a series of child models representing each type of service : ServiceType < Company. I want to return lists of companys for each

Patches to rake files
rakewx.rb: - Added a $debug_build variable so when we do eventually we can also release non debug builds. I did not make this a constant on purpose so in the package tasks we can change it to false if we want to always make non debug builds by default. - Changed wx_config to use the $debug_build variable rakemswin.rb: - Updated the copyright year. - removed the $DEBUG const and make use of

Rearranging the furniture....
Hi Tom and All, I have been quietly watching the list for the last year (no new issues for me that weren''t covered in the docs or promptly "bug-fixed" by Tom. Boy, has this grown exponentially! Anyway, back to the point (the proverbial rearranging the furniture)... I have been evaluating Mandrake''s MNF as an upgrade for my Firewall box. If I do this( and even if I don''t), I would like to move Postfix into the DMZ like the rest of the services (this will leave the FW to just routing and firewall duties). Since I know there are other...

The networkmag@cmp.com appears to be broken. I dug around the magazine contacts and found Doug Allen, senior editor, you can send comments to dallen2@cmp.com . I didn't get a bounce back from that e-mail so I assume it made it to the editor. JR

...Stop trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Whee, I just _know_ I'm going to be positively skewered (and maybe even plonked!) for this.... but, hey, it's Friday, and this post is meant to be a bit funny.? So lighten up, and enjoy a short read. obHumor: I actually have a piece of furniture (a small table) with square pegs in round holes.? The spaces between the sides of the square peg and the round hole are filled with a color-contrasting glue, and the result is rather pretty.? :-)? I intentionally picked this furniture specifically because of the square pegs in the round holes....

Re: AutoCAD and Wine
...nt to test without rebuild wine.... Point 3, if you need it, hasn't be accepted too.... some time ago. I've no time nor fun to make it "acceptable" by now, so if you've also problems with printer format (which is most probably if you use Autocad not just to draw your kitchen furniture.....), just grab the patch on bug page and apply it :-) I'm also thinking on making a debian pre-built patched wine package, for AutoCAD users.... if I've time to do it, I'll post news here. Ciao Max
