funfits (PR#137)
Hi,
I spotted an inconsistency between the output of funfits under R, more
specifically "nnreg", and the one obtained under S-plus. Notice the difference
in the "Root MSE", "GVC" and "GVC cost=2". As a check mark, I am also including
the data summaries, confirming that I was in fact using the same data set.

Lyapunov exponent?
Hello,
Does anybody know if there is somewhere in R a function to calculate the
Lyapunov exponent in a time series?
Thanks,

Lyapunov exponent code for time series
Dear all,
Has anyone worked on coding for calculating Lyapunov Exponent for a time
series data? or any package is available for computing Lyapunov?
Please advice and many thanks in advance.

Looking for tools to run case crossover analysis
Hi All:
I am interested in tools available in R that will enable me to run analysis of case crossover studies. I searched the web (http://www.google.com), and found that a tool called "funfit" was available for Splus. Searching the R archives, I also found mention of a "funfit" library.
However, when I searched in CRAN, I could not find it.
Is "funfit" now part of another package? Or, what other tools are available in R for specifically doing case crossover st...

multiple persp plots
...with box, and
then superpose a second surface (without box and axes) on the top plane of
the box defined by the first graph. I don't know if it is clear :-(
Is it possible to draw such a second surface in an existing persp plot in R?
Another (related) question: once upon a time, it was a 'funfits' library in
CRAN. I don't find it on CRAN any more. Is it defunct? I installed an old
version 2.0.3 of this library. In the help files, there is a mention about
functions like persp.text, persp.points, persp.lines to add features in an
existing persp plot... but I don't find them. Do t...

Makefiles in contributed packages
Hello,
I have a couple of suggestions that will help persons with
machines/OSs that use extensions other than ".so" for shared libs:
1) Use the variable SHLIBEXT (defined in Makeconf), DONT use "so" or "sl".
2) Use the method in "modreg" to load the dynamic lib:
.First.lib <- function(lib, pkg) library.dynam("modreg", pkg, lib)

bivariate function in gam model
R-users --
I would be interested in tools in R to fit the following gam model:
logit(p) = a + f(x1) + f(x2) + f(x1,x2),
where f(x1,x2) defines a surface.
I have looked into the mgcv library, but it seems only to fit models of
the form:
logit(p) = a + f(x1) + f(x2)
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Dan

fitting regression models
[original bounced; re-submitted by list maintainer, MM]
I have downloaded the package modreg for R but when i doing "R INSTALL modreg"
I get_ errors.
With the packages akima, funfits, acepack,KernSmooth and othes i have the same
problem. Why??
I need R for working with calibration curves, and i dont know what is the best
package for it.
I need some packages for fitting nonlinear models.
I would like install thes fuctions: rreg(); lmsfit(); l1fit(); and loess.

thin plate splines
Hi
Does someone knows if there's a function/package that can make thin
plate splines ? I've looked in mgcv and splines but I haven't found
anything.
Thanks

Am I missing something? . The help files for 'apply' in R and is S+
are exaclty the same, but the implementations obviously are
different. . .
Another, tring again to port FUNFITS i get a lot of errors for
missing i-o something, I deleted all the 'write(*,*)' from the
fortran sources but there remain some 'write(2,*)...' writings to
temporary files which the compiler library does not like. I am using

multidimensional function fitting

Subject: [R] multidimensional function fitting
Hello,
I have been looking around for how to perform a multidimensional, arbitrary
function fit (in any case non-linear; more below), but haven't found
anything yet on how to accomplish this. I found some references to the
funfits package (that apparently is now called fields), but as far as I have
understood it, it does not do what I need.
Basically, I have a set of data that describe some measured, dependent
variable as a function of a number of controlled variables, in casu
z=f(x,y). What I need is to obtain some f that...

Assembler messages?
Up to now I have got the base R and about half of the packages
working on SuSe Linux 5.3 using gcc, g77 and xdevel.
The other half, for example: pspline, logspline, KernSmooth, akima,
tripack, ppr, principal.curve, cluster, funfit, repeated, event, etc.,
just won't install.
Some of them give warnings at expressions in subroutines (repeated,
event, pspline,etc.. I will ask about this in another mail) but a number
give 'Assembler messages'.
Of these I will quote an install log for 'akima' in full:

packages with FORTRAN code
...handled via the make variable FLIBS, and that `-lf2c' or `-lg2c' are
added by default if g77 is used.
This will not solve problems in packages which use their own Makefile
if it does not use FLIBS for building the shared library. Currently,
this seems to be the case with
acepack
akima
funfits
growth
leaps
tripack
It would be great if the package maintainers could update their pkgs
accordingly. Most likely, the best solution is to remove the Makefile
altogether.
Thanks
