Sen's slope - fume package different output than zyp or wq
Hello, I am trying to decide which package to use to calculate the non-parametric Sen's Slope for identifying trends in rainfall data (determine the slope between all pairs of points and take the median of those slopes). I have found three packages that output Sen's: "zyp", "wq" and "fume". The outputs of "zyp.sen()" and "mannKen()" from

WiFi IP Phones
Guys. I know there are wifi sip phones out there but I have a question, are any of these phones "anti explosive"? By that I mean, there are certain regulations about phones or cel phones that are not recommended to operate in environments like gas stations due to sparks and the chance of ingiting gas fumes. Are there any wifi sip phones out here that have complaince with regulations to

CyberPower PR3000LCDRTXL2U — battery date reset?
Well, for a bit of devil's advocate - if the battery swelled, it might hace leaked or fumed, contaminating the device and contacts. The safe approach (for their liability, and for end-users' fire hazard really) is to not claim the device is safe to use anymore. AD member server - getting a user's name (GECOS)
Greetings, My odd question for the week - I've been unable to figure out if/how to do this. Given an Active Directory user ID, is there a way to get the user's real name? During testing of our Samba AD member servers I have seen user's given names appearing in the log files - is there a way that I can pull that for my own use? Our site uses loginIDs for users that give no clue

ALERT: Tiresome security hole in "xosview", RedHat5.1?
Hi, I am bemused. After some security auditing on RH5.0, I was curious as to what new suid binaries and daemons shipped with RH5.1. The first one I noticed was "xosview". God knows why it needs to be SUID; it probably doesn''t but the makefile just makes the binary suid by default. Linux has /proc which has enough information that ferreting around in /dev/kmem using root privs

Asterisk and Dial-Up ISP
Yes, I know this is lame, but my location limits me to using a dial-up ISP. I am running asterisk with a T100P and a TDM400 card. I currently have dial-on-demand setup on the same box, using diald and an external modem. To prevent DOD from trying to dial out during an external call, I have an AGI script kill diald before initiating a call, and then restart it at the end of the call by looking

Unable to compile Samba 3.5.6 on Solaris 9 - more winbind issues
Greetings, No helpful hints have been offered to my winbind issues with Samba 3.4.9 and Solaris 9 I started trying to build Samba 3.5.6. Using gcc 3.4.6. I added "-lintl" to the LIBS option in the Makefile which cleared some earlier linker errors involving libintl_gettext, libintl_textdomain and libintl_bindtextdomain being undefined, except with winbind: Linking shared library

Samba 3.5.6, Solaris 10, pam_winbind.so will not link
Greetings, Still no progress trying to get Samba 3.5.6 built on Solaris 10, using gcc 3.4.6. Maybe fresh eyes will see something? Been having issues building samba since 3.4.9 (and anything greater than 3.2.15 on Solaris 9 where samba will build, but winbind will not work properly for user authentication.) techops$ make Using CFLAGS = -I/opt/local/kerberos5/include -O -I.

[Off Topic] humour, XMAS, ground loop - good business strategy
...with a wave of his hand he did turn The stoplights of dude-ville to once again burn All around dude-ville the happiness spread The cars and the trucks they suddenly sped Mirth and merriment and singing and cheer Celebrating the happiest day of the year Now Ground Loop stomped and he romped and he fumed Mad that the cheer of Dude-ville resumed His plan was now foiled, the intent so cruel Now he must locate a different fool. Using MySQL to store email?
So Timo, Have you considered the idea of storing all the email in a MySQL database? Seems to me that MySQL could somplify all the backend stuff that everyone struggles with and with replication one could create very massive and reliable systems. What would it take to use MySQL that way?

stop() vs. error() ?
Why does stop("we are done") print "Error in eval.with.vis(expr, envir, enclos) :" ? It would seem to me that a plain stop() is not an error, and that it would make more sense to have an error() function that is different from a stop(). Is there a rationale here that I am missing? sincerely, /iaw

A request from the CentOS Project
The CentOS Project seems to be having a problem within some of our community interactive areas that we need to address. As most of you know, the project provides CentOS software free of charge and we also provide community areas like a Wiki, Mailing Lists, IRC Channels and Fora for our users to interact with one another and allow the CentOS community to provide support for each other. There are

The Origins of R
In another thread on this list, various wild allegations have been made, relating to the New York Times article on R. I object both to the subject line and to the content of several of the messages, and will not repeat or quote any of that content. It smacks to me of mischief making. Discussion has centered around the following quote from the NY Times article: ?According to them, the
