Newbie:Family Tree Maker 2009 will not execute-Ubuntu Hardy
...inux so be patient. I'm running Ubuntu Hardy and have Wine 1.1.5 installed. After installing Family Tree Maker 2009 successfully, it will not execute. The screen comes up like it is going to start and says the database needs to be compacted and then the screen fades away. I decided to run FTM 2009 from the terminal and see what is happening. Obviously a lot of things. Can anyone give me guidance on where to begin? (The answer is not going to GRAMPS because I want to solve the FTM 2009 problem) Here is what the terminal run indicates: fixme:virtual:NtAllocateVirtualMemory MEM_WRITE_W...

Wine beta hangs, Requires reboot of Linux
I reported earlier that I was getting a lot of error messages out of Wine running Family Tree Maker. As requested I updated to the beta version of Wine, but since doing so nobody has responded with any followup. I now find that after running FTM for a long period of time that Wine hangs up. This suggests to me that there is a memory leak in the beta version. When I terminate the application, by clicking on the window's shutdown icon and instructing the window manager to force the application down, I can no longer start Wine applicati...

metaflac crashes adding cuesheet
...en running metaflac without the --import-tags-from, so I'm not sure this is the problem. Unless perhaps there's an absolute requirement for tag info? I could try debugging it myself, but I'm a total ignoramus when it comes to audio codecs, so I've no idea where to even start. Or FTM, how to even get gdb to find the source for debugging. Requesting Maintainer for Legacy Family Tree 7
Hello Not sure how I'm meant to go about requesting a Maintainer, but I'll try this method. I am trying to get my grandparents to switch from Windows XP to Linux (Ubuntu). First step, would of course be including all programs they currently have on there computer. So I need Legacy Family Tree 7. Any chance of a maintainer? Thanks in advance, Panarchy

How do I install in .wine/drive-c/program files?
...$ man wine. Next I want to run the program Family Tree Maker 2006 which is listed in AppDB as available. This contains many executables - do I copy the whole CD to Program Files? The whole CD is just over 100 MB; the installation in Windows Program Files is about 60 MB. The Installation file is ftm.exe and this runs under Linux and offers to install by default at C:/Program Files - I try to browse but cannot locate .Wine in /usr/bin from that path. Apparently it's a hidden file so doesn't show. I can open .wine -> browse drive_c from the Linux Menu and it appears to be located in...

metaflac crashes adding cuesheet
Erik, The command used by abcde is metaflac --no-utf8-convert --import-cuesheet-from=/home/me/Audio/abcde.50107806/cue-50107806.txt --import-tags-from=- /home/me/Audio/abcde.50107806/track1.flac but I get the same result re-trying without the --no-utf8-convert and -no-utf8-convert. Here's the cuesheet: PERFORMER "William Shakespeare" TITLE "A Midsummer

Newbie: Data reading problem
Hello everybody, I'm a new R user and I've got some difficulties to find the right way to read data files. My problem is the following: I have dayly records of different devices (they all have their own name) during a time period (let's say one year). Each device records 6 fields. I would like to consider that one "fellow" is the recording of one to six fields for one

Softfax/spandsp
Hi all, After a long time having no time, I have finally done some fresh work on my software fax machine. I have replaced the original carrier tracking with something more robust. I have also added 4800, and 2400 bits per second modes, and cleaned up a few bugs in areas like superfine mode operation. I apologise for this update taking so long. At ftp://ftp.opencall.org/pub/spandsp you will
