Subject: F-secure -> Openssh Compatibility
We have Macintoshes running Fsecure SSH client 1.0.1 which are unable to
connect to a server running Openssh 2.1.1 on Red Hat 6.2.
I believe that the problem is a bug with Fsecure, since a 30-day trial
version of 1.0.2 works fine. I'm a bit reluctant to tell all the Mac users
they have to spend money to upgrade, though, since e...

hang on exit bug under Linux
>From what I understand, the problem is due to people's disagreement about what the "correct" behavior should be. I'm pretty sure that the following is the correct behavior from running rsh and ssh often (both fsecure and openssh).
Lets say you have a stupid script that does
while 1
do
sleep 1
done
Called foreverSleep on your remote host:
rsh remotehost "foreverSleep &"
Should and does hang (on Linux and Solaris at least).
HOWEVER,
rsh remotehost
# foreverSleep &
# exit

corrupt files localhost
We recently ran into an issue with scp'ing file only themselves which
results in a corrupt file. I understand that this seems logical for files
to be currupt when cping them onto themselves, but for some reason fsecure
scp does not do this. For reasons outside of my control, we need this to
work for staging purposes.
Example:
scp /home/file localhost:/home/file
leave file completely corrupt.
Using rsync to do the same thing, even with openssh makes everything fine.
Any ideas on this. Any help is appreciat...

remote execution
On a related note to my corrupt files issue, it seems that somethign is
also different with openssh and fsecure ssh that breaks on of our scripts
that does an apache restart or on a remote machine. It just does a
restart using red hat package init script and smoetimes completely fails
to execute. The problem is that it's only *sometimes*. Fsecure ssh work
reliable. Any ideas on this?
Thanks

question about ssh / security
I've been using ssh for a while now (both fsecure and openssh), but am
not an expert on security. I was wondering whether the following is
secure:
I create a key pair, trusted & trusted.pub
I run sshd on a server (no telnet, rsh or other services). I create a
user "guest", and put "trusted.pub" in my authorized file. I g...

[Bug 669] Putty / SecureCRT connections fail to authenticate
...result.
Logs didn't offer any help:
Sep 17 23:19:01 localhost sshd[7568]: Failed password for myuser from
192.168.0.12 port 1931 ssh2
neither did testruns with "sshd -de". Still I'm considering that it's sshd's
problem as the connections work from openssh and FSecure's SSH.

Possible root-exploit in openssh?
...---------
The program is 1.2 MB and is crypted. It gives you a root shell but
doesn't seem to do anything stupid. 1.2 MB is a lot of data though...
Using strace/truss/gdb etc doesn't result in anything useful so it is a
bit hard to say what it really is doing.
They have confirmed that :
Fsecure
1.2.xx
2.x.xx
3.0.x
and
Openssh
1.x
2.9p1
2.9.9p2
is vulnerable. Openssh 3.0.1p1 doesn't seem to be vulnerable though.
It is called x2 (at least by the people i have talked to).
It doesn't seem to be the crc-bu but more somwthing in the line of a
buffer overrun during the handshake

Some X11 programs don't work on connection from SSH Secure Shell
...nnection requested.
debug2: fd 13 is O_NONBLOCK
debug2: fd 13 is O_NONBLOCK
debug1: channel 2: new [X11 connection from 137.78.37.65 port 43165]
debug1: channel 2: open confirm rwindow 30000 rmax 2048
And then it says no more. But these programs work fine if I connect via
ssh from a Linux box or fsecure (SSH1). If I scratch my head any more I'll
get splinters in my fingers.
Any suggestions?

Firewall 1 will do FW to FW encrypted tunneling and you can download the
free "SecuRemote" client for VPN. The only VPN solution I have heard of for
Linux would be SSH. I was talking to the FSecure Rep and he said you can
run everything through SSH (mail, ftp, http, etc.). If you fire up and SSHd
on your Linux box, then use FSecure client on a windows box (and he said he
was sure it could be done with Linux, though he didn''t'' know how -- I would
love to play with it). Now...

SSH trademarks and the OpenSSH product name
Friends,
Sorry to write this to a developer mailing list. I have already
approached some OpenSSH/OpenBSD core members on this, including Markus
Friedl, Theo de Raadt, and Niels Provos, but they have chosen not to
bring the issue up on the mailing list. I am not aware of any other
forum where I would reach the OpenSSH developers, so I will post this
here.
As you know, I have been using the SSH
