I think it is weird - with everything else being connected to LANs like
fridges etc . . why not UPSs?

Using grep with tail. Unix challenge!
I want to tail my development.log file, but i only want to show the
lines that have the word "ERROR" in. How can i do this??
Doing this :
tail -f development.log | grep "ERROR"
will filter the log file, but it will not constantly update itself. i.e.
newly added lines to the log file that contain "ERROR" are not
displayed.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks

because probably an UPS port ( or even RS232-to-USB adapter ) is cheaper
to implement than a LAN port ( & everything associated with it, like IP
stack, SNMP and so on )

i18n: duplicate message definition
Okay, this internationalization stuff with gettext is driving me nuts.
"duplicate message definition" all over.
Searching Google brings up lots of info that there may not be duplicate
message ids, oh wonder. Nobody on IRC knows anything about it. One guy
has had the problem, there''s a transcript on rails-weenie''s website,
but no answer.
PLEASE, HELP!

Buzzing / Humming Noise
Hi
Lately I've been having problem with the handsets on the polycom phones.
The agents are complaining that the humming/buzzing can be heard on random
days.
When the agents touch their computer the buzzing may increase louder or
reduced. Also when they grab the handset cable, the buzzing noise is less
loud and is loud again when I let it go.
I have tried changing the handsets, problem not

Ehancement to domU suspend/resume
Hi, all,
When working on adding PM support to xen, we realized that
some enhancements are required to suspend/resume domU. Following
is some background and thoughts, and welcome on comments. :-)
Currently we use a simple approach (pause/unpause) for domU
when ready to pull whole platform into a power save state, saying a
S3. Because pause/unpause is out of domU''s knowledge, domU

invalidating a session on multiple login
How do I do the following: if a user is logged in, then opens another
browser tab and logs in again (either as himself or as someone else),
I want to invalidate the session in the first tab and throw up a
"logged in from another browser window" screen. RIght now, user1''s
session silently becomes a duplicate user2 session instead (from what
I understand, sessions are bound to

Can Rails render pages if there is no database connected?
I thought I knew the answer to this question (''yes''), however,
recently I''ve been trying to build an app that detects whether or not
the administrator has correctly configured the database. I''d like to
give instructions in the negative case.
So here''s where I''m at: if the database is configured, my app runs
wonderfully; however, if

suprising behaviour of tryCatch()
Because `<-` and `=` do different things (and I am one of the old
fossils that wish they had not been confounded).
`fun(x <- expr)` Assigns the value of `expr` to the variable `x` in
the frame/environment that `fun` is called from.
`fun(x = expr)` Assigns the value of `expr`to the variable `x` in the
frame/environment created for and used by `fun` subject to the rules
of argument matching.

Some basic questions about getting the best performance for database usage
I''m new so opensolaris and very new to ZFS. In the past we have always used linux for our database backends.
So now we are looking for a new database server to give us a big performance boost, and also the possibility for scalability.
Our current database consists mainly of a huge table containing about 230 million records and a few (relatively) smaller tables (something like 13 million

suprising behaviour of tryCatch()
Hello,
I run a fisher.test() in a loop, with the issue that some of the data will not be useable. To protect the loop I used tryCatch but:
sexsnp = rep(NA, 1750)
for(i in 1:1750){tryCatch(sexsnp[i] = fisher.test(table(data[,3], data[,i + 38]))$p, error = function(e) print(NA))}
Error: unexpected '=' in "for(i in 1:1750){tryCatch(sexsnp[i] ="
But this works:

Hi guys,
I know it's a little off topic but......Wondering if you can help.
My wife has been asked to find a writer to produce a story on "The
dramatic ramifications of IPV6 on commercial businesses and how it will
change the product designs for ordinary household/commercial use in a
5-10 year time frame"

XCP: Insecure Distro ?
Hello mailing list!
I have been working with XCP a little bit, and I have the impression
that this distro is insecure. First, it does not look like update
repositories are enabled inside /etc/yum.repos.d, although I''m from an
apt background so I may be misinterpreting that. Where will my
security updates come from?
Next, it appears that the root password hash is directly stored inside
