Quality of vp3.2 codec?
How good is the video compression in vp3.2?
For example, how does it compare (bit rate & quality) to mpeg1, mpeg2,
Divx, real Video 8+, Windows Media, etc. etc.
It being open source is nice and all, but if it can't be reasonably
competitive then there isn't much point to it.
I just haven't seen anything that compares vp32 to anything else.
(Although to be honest, I haven't

Independent implementations?
Hullo,
When people ask me what Vorbis's license terms are, I usually tell
them that the bitstream format is in the public domain, that the
reference libraries are licensed under a BSD-like license, and that
the example programs are licensed under the GNU GPL. (Note the
distinction between filespec and implementation here.)
Meanwhile, Theora.org's FAQ doesn't say anything about the

Theora vs. Nullsoft NSV
How does the Theora project differ from Nullsofts NSV project?
Other than the obvious fact they use mp3....

review of video codecs
I appreciated the link to

although, as Freun said, it was "Not really all that informative,..."
Is anyone aware of a site that has a downloadable video clip that was created
for comparison purposes with different video codecs (MPEG 1, 2, 4, divx,
Windows, Real, VP3, VP4, VP5, and so on)? Preferably, each of the video
clips woul...

A comparison of VP3, and two MPEG-4 variants
a couple points before I look at this too hard:
"For VP3, since you can't do a constant quality encode"
what? that should not be the case. Could be a QT-specific bug. Theora at any rate is certainly capable of doing constant-quality encode. This probably explains your standard deviation complaint -- VP3 is running a rate control alg, where the other codecs are just shooting for

Theora file extension
Theora and Vorbis both uses same extension .ogg. I know ogg is a
container, just like avi. But in my opinion video and audio files should
have different extensions (using .ogv can be a nice idea).
To a media player it doesn't matter what extension a file uses, but to a
human who does a ls in a directory full of media files having different
extensions will help a lot. I know one can use file

Review of Mpeg-4 & on2's vp3...
The site:
http://www.techimo.com/articles/index.pl?photo=33&SID=12&tag=SNnb323
has a review & comparison of several mpeg-4 codecs, and they also
include vp3. (Be warned, it's a very big web page, due to all of the
image examples!)
Not really all that informative, but I thought somebody might be
interested in hearing about it.
