OT: P(Z <= -1.46).
...r the solutions to some homework that I had assigned I
observed the fact that in R (version 2.4.0) pnorm(-1.46) gives
0.07214504. The tables in the text book that I am using for the
course give the probability as 0.0722.
Fascinated, I scanned through 5 or 6 other text books (amongst the
dozens of freebies from publishers that lurk on my shelf) and found
that some agree with R (giving P(Z <= -1.46) = 0.0721) and some agree
with the first text book, giving 0.0722.
It is clearly of little-to-no practical import, but I'm curious as to
how such a discrepancy would arise in this era. Has anyone a...

Traktion
This one may well be the first fully capable audio/midi DAW program to work in
both Windows and Linux. This is because it is not based on Microsoft's
framework. I got the freebie while this offer was around. Version 2 is
supposed to come out soon.
(I presently use Cakewalk Home Studio--Sonar's not so little sister and a lot
of bang for the buck. I have gotten used to drawing

Custom crypto in hardware
Hi Freebies!!
I know F-BSD 4.8 supports a framework in the kernel to use crypto
functions from hifn crypto cards. Is there any of these cards that
support custom crypto? What is the best route to go if I want to support
IPSec (and maybe other) crypto functions but with custom crypto
algorithms?
Any info or id...

Agile Depot Tutorial Help
anyone can explain me why in the Agile Depot Tutorial application they
use i.product_id
to find if a product already exist in the cart, because the cart
contains items, each of them references a product.
I tried i.product_id like in the tutorial
and
i.product.i
all of these 2 notation works , but i find the second seems more
clean??? isn''t it.
Any explanation will be fine

redhat vs centos
I have been reading the threads on here with great ernest about redhat
making a move to throw off centos compilations.
I read some stories about microsoft wanting to work closer with centos
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/05/17/microsoft_and_centos/
I have to update to centos 6 due to some needs of clients who need newer
mysql and php (and installing them on centos5
was too hard for me).

Unpredictables Hangups
Hello all,
i'm experiencing a list of unpredictables hangup on SIP phones using a PRI
E100P Card.
All i can see in logs is
" WARNING[81931]: File chan_zap.c, Line 5402 (zt_pri_error): PRI: Read on 37

I receive a lot of these errors in asterisk/messages.
It doesn't seem to be strictly linked to hangups, since i have dozen of

Wintab32 - Tablet support - VBtablet & wintab working for Dogwaffle?
...t program there which reports pressure, angle etc.... you might
want to see if that works.
Does somebody on this list have a Wacom, AceCad, Pablo (Disney Magic Artist)
or Aiptek tablet to try Dogwaffle with it? project Dogwaffle uses VBtablet.
The latest v1.6 demo is at www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/freebies , the free
version 1.11b is at download.com and Tucows.com but didn't use VBtablet yet
so not interesting (well for tablet users anyway, still might be of interest
for entry-level painters; I doubt the installer will work but hey if it
does, yipeee).
the other day at a show in Anaheim I tried...

Oddity running software from "The learning Company"
We got a "freebie" CD-ROM at a drive through that is produced by "The
Learning Company". After installing dcom98, adding the registry
settings to allow creation of desktop icons, and getting wine to say it
was win98, I finally got the thing to install.
The application main menu runs, but when it call "start.exe" to start
the actual game, everything exits cleanly and

Permissions Problem (?)
Hello,
I'm an inexperienced Linux / Samba user attempting to get some simple
networking going with various versions of Windows.
Running Samba 3.0.14a-2 on a 'freebie magazine' fedora install.
I appear to have a what I think is a permissions problem, but could(?) be
username or password related.
I can see my shares on all of my Windows clients (2k,xp and 98). I can read
from them,

-Auto-download Freesbie Net-intaller on PC Bootup- then install peercast

Sounds like a good idea, no?
I'd like to have a tiny OS on a USB flash memory drive that boots up with
a network interface, collects information about available Freesbie
versions using a completely distributed peer-to-peer network a la
bittorrent, and then lets

Newbie: Samba and Networks
Folks,
Installing samba 2.2.8a on a Solaris 2.8 machine for the purpose of mounting
shared Unix file systems on W2K clients.
Completed basic install, and tested OK on the same network.
However, when the W2K boxes are on a separate network, mapping the drive or
using net use on the W2K box results in the dreaded "The network path was
not found." message.. Traffic travels through at

UNZ FM TOWNS Emulator not reading discs
Hello all,
I've got Unz (FM Towns emulator) running under wine but its not capable of reading the original FM Towns CDROM images on my Mac.
I have it working under Windows XP using Daemon Tools to mount the ISO but under OSX it does not work. I have the ISO mounted under finder and have pointed my wine configuration to the mount point. No luck.

testing for nil numeric value in find
In the agile/rails tutorial book the following construct is added
to products.rb.
def self.salable_items

:order => "date_available desc")
end
Now, I wish to extend :conditions => to exclude products that have
a nil value for the price. I have tried different syntax

Ripping CD´s to Ogg Vorbis under Linux
Hi,
I recently migrated from Windows to Linux. I´ve used Linux quite a bit
in server-enviroments, but as a desktop I have very little experience.
I am now looking for a tool to rip CD´s to Ogg with CDDA support. I´ve
tried KonCD, but it lacks features and is abit buggy.
Sure, I can use cdparanoia, rename the wav´s to the right names and then
encode to ogg via oggenc. But since I use X I
