mainboard recommendations
...urchasing a brand new system, I have searched for replacement MB-s that would fit into my existing uATX case, support my C2D CPU, and support at least 4x2GB ram. I have narrowed it down to the following four models: SUPERMICRO MBD-C2SBM-Q-O (Q35 chipset) Intel BOX DQ45CB (Q45 chipset) Foxconn Q45M (Q45 chipset) Asus P5QL-VM DO (B43 chipset) I consider going with the Intel board, since it''s explicitly mentioned in the xen wiki to work. The Supermicros''s DOCS mention VT-D to work, but where I live, it costs twice the cost of the intel board, so it''s out...

SATA on Foxconn P4M9007MB-8RS2H motherboard
To those of you who may be interested, to get SATA drives to work on this motherboard with Xen 3.3.1 (compiled from source) you need to set SATA to RAID mode in the BIOS, not the default IDE mode. So I can only assume that the 2.6.18.8 kernel has a problem with the VIA SATA in IDE mode, and can''t recognise it, even though the host OS (Ubuntu 8.04LTS, in my case) has no problems with it.

bogus motherboard? IOMMU does not work
Hi all, I would like to get my system to work with IOMMU. (The long-term goal is VGA passthru.) System is as follows: CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 MB: Foxconn G9657MA-8EKRS2H (w. latest bios: 631F1P61) Virtualization support is enabled in BIOS. (These is only one option.) Hypervisor: xen 4.0.0 from Debian, AMD64 Xen config: iommu=verbose output of xen dmesg is attached. HVM domains work (lasd tried with xen 3.2), but IOMMU is disabled, according to xen...

Has anyone used a Dell with a PERC H310?
...that the card runs an LSISAS2008 chip, so chances are that standard LSI firmware will work on it. I can send you all the required bits to do the reflash, if you like." I got Dell Perc H310 controller for do-it-yourself experiments, I tried to run it on non-Dell PC platforms like Asus P5Q and Foxconn G31MX. Without success. I will appreciate very much any hint how to get LSI firmware and reflash Dell H310. Best Regards, Andrzej Sochon -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Maybe OT - Centos 5 SATA JMicron JMB361 SATA
Hi All, I know Centos 5 is almost EOL and all this is old but.... I'm helping a colleague who has moved a Centos 5 install on an IDE disk to system with a Foxconn M'board. His idea is to use the SATA interface that's on the Foxconn. The thing boots OK and then gets into a loop trying to start the interfaces to the SATA disks. Oceans of stuff like this in /var/log/messages Aug 7 04:23:32 filestore kernel: ata1: hard resetting link Aug 7 04:23:32...

Hardware compatibility IM-945GC Intel Atom Mini-ITX
Can this MB be used with Centos 4 (or 5)? For reference: http://www.logicsupply.com/products/ms_9832 I don't think we can use this new MB since the Realtek 8111C does not seem to be supported (well) http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/8111c-nic-revision-ep45-27089/ -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -

Problems w/ CentOS 4.4 ....
.... I just installed CentOS 4.4 yesterday P.M., on my 2.4 GHz P4 box, Foxconn i865 mbd, 2 GB DDR400 RAM (4 X 512 MB), 1 X 20 GB HDD (hda), 1 X 160 GB HDD (hdb), 1 X LG GSA H22N DVD reader/burner (hdc), 1 X 400 GB HDD (hdd), Coolmax CP500-T PSU. I wiped SuSE 9.2 off of the 20 GB drive & installed CentOS. The other 2 drives were already ext3 FS & will be mounted as...

Opteron Mobo Suggestions
I've been planning to build a dual Opteron server for awhile. I'd like to get people's suggestions on a suitable motherboard. I've looked at the Tyan K8SE (S2892) and K8SRE (S2891) but would like to find more Linux-specific experiences with these boards. Some features I expect are at least 4 SATA (SATA-300?) ports, serial console support in the BIOS, USB 2.0 and IEEE-1394

Tyan K8SE (S2892) / nForce Pro Experiences
Has anyone installed Linux (CentOS or other) on a Tyan K8SE (S2892) motherboard? I'd really like to hear your experiences -- with this board or Nvidia's nForce Pro chipset in general. I'm looking to build a new server using this board but would like to find some other experiences first. I've googled myself blue but haven't found any reviews or postings regarding this

Software RAID1 with CentOS-6.2
Hello, Having a problem with software RAID that is driving me crazy. Here's the details: 1. CentOS 6.2 x86_64 install from the minimal iso (via pxeboot). 2. Reasonably good PC hardware (i.e. not budget, but not server grade either) with a pair of 1TB Western Digital SATA3 Drives. 3. Drives are plugged into the SATA3 ports on the mainboard (both drives and cables say they can do 6Gb/s). 4.

Best option for my home file server?
...ale your disks to be in proportion with your target total usable size and keep it simple and to an even number of disks. I still have yet to purchase the system due to my issues with finding the right board with the right SATA controller. My desktop system at home runs an nVidia 590a chipset on a Foxconn motherboard and Solaris U3 will only recognize the DVD drive during installation. A side note to that compatibility issue... quick/dirty solution to the SATA controller issue... install VMWare Server and configure VMWare to supply the guest raw disks. VMWare Server provides a nice hardware abstra...
