Tools For Preparing Data For Analysis
...ll dating from the 1970s: SPSS, SAS, and S. SAS is more
popular than S for data cleaning.
If you're an R user with difficult data preparation problems, frankly
you are out of luck, because the products I'm about to mention are
new, unknown, and therefore regarded as immature. And while the
founders of these products would be very happy if you kicked the
tires, most people don't like to look at brand new products. Most
innovators and inventers don't realize this, I've learned it the hard
way.
But if you are a volunteer who likes to help out by evaluating,
comparing, and reporting...

theora spec
can anyone confirm that, unlike VP3, Theora in fact decodes images right-side-up? (VP3 managed to turn everything upside down on encode and reverse it on decode)
The tests I'm doing indicate that Theora doesn't reverse the image -- the first coefficients encoded correspond to the upper-left corner of the frame.

Attaching effects during onload
I''m trying to attach effects to elements in my onload handler and my

the onclick handler of an anchor inside the div I want the effect to

scriptaculous: Draggable and table rows
I''m trying to add drag/drop for moving rows between two tables, and not
having much luck... I can get images to be drag-able OK so I know all
the script files are in the right place ;-) But no joy with table rows.
Is this a Draggable and/or Javascript/HTML limitation?
Here''s what I''m trying:

Assertions for asynchronous behaviour
Hi all,
In GOOS[1] they use an assertion called assertEventually which samples the system for a success state until a certain timeout has elapsed. This allows you to synchronise the tests with asynchronous code.
Do we have an equivalent of that in the Ruby / RSpec world already? I know capybara has wait_until { } but that''s fairly rudimentary - the failure message isn''t very

performance.cache-size for high-RAM clients/servers, other tweaks for performance, and improvements to Gluster docs
Thanks for the link. Looking at the status of that doc, it isn't quite
ready yet, and there's no mention of the option.
Does it mean that whatever is ready now in 4.0.1 is incomplete but can be
enabled via granular-entry-heal=on, and when it is complete, it'll become
the default and the flag will simply go away?
Is there any risk enabling the option now in 4.0.1?
Sincerely,
Artem

To clarify, I was on 3.13.2 previously, recently updated to 4.0.1, and the
bug seems to persist in 4.0.1.

performance.cache-size for high-RAM clients/servers, other tweaks for performance, and improvements to Gluster docs
Btw, I've now noticed at least 5 variations in toggling binary option
values. Are they all interchangeable, or will using the wrong value not
work in some cases?
yes/no
true/false
True/False
on/off
enable/disable
It's quite a confusing/inconsistent practice, especially given that many
options will accept any value without erroring out/validation.

Artem

Getting glusterfs to expand volume size to brick size
That might be the reason. Perhaps the volfiles were not regenerated after
upgrading to the version with the fix.
There is a workaround detailed in [2] for the time being (you will need to
copy the shell script into the correct directory for your Gluster release).

SSL and url_for
Hey, all!
I''m having a url problem that seems like I''m going to overcomplicate
it if I don''t just ask what I''m doing wrong...
My situation is that I''m testing to see if a visitor is accessing a
controller via SSL, and if not, redirect to the same controller via my
secure address. This really only amounts to replacing http with https,
and so I did the
