I had this problem some last year and never got it figured out. Now it is bugging me. It seems that sometimes when a student writes his/her file to a directory, it will not keep the correct group. I've tried to determine this empirically, but have run foul of config issues that won't be resolved in the immediate future. Basically, I know that Samba + ACL + an acl-aware filesystem will allow me to assign unix-style permissions to arbitrary groups of people for a given file. However, Windows has additional permissions: delete, take ownership, and, um, I think possibly one or two more.

Several times my packages have fallen foul of the latex check at the uploading-to-CRAN stage, creating extra work for Kurt Hornik. I've never bothered trying to get latex working on my own packages (happy with vanilla help) but am told that "latex is the closest thing to a syntax checker for Rd files" and that I should set it up.
