Newbie, Win2K config, fails on test 8 (long)
Hi. I'm not a sysadmin, but I'm the only person in this building who knows anything about linux boxes. I'm trying to install samba to connect the box (rh7.3) to the windows network. test 8 is where I run into problems. My username and passwd are the same for both. My firewall is down. I have appended my .conf file. I've been searching around through the archives and

Differing Win & Linux user names
First off I'll admit that I'm a bit of a newbie to Samba and Linux so sorry if this is a dumb question, but I had a look and couldn't find the answer anywhere. How do I map a username on a Windows 98 box to a different username on a Linux box? For example, if my username on a Windows machine was 'Daniel Foster' and my username on the linux box was 'dan' how do I make

Collaborative Wiki for fostering Open Innovation in R
Dear R Developers, I am writing in order to open a constructive debate whether if it is worth it that R Project adopts the Apache Software Foundation & Wikipedia Model for Open Documentation by using a Collaborative Wiki & Document Store (As a complement to Bugzilla and Mailing Lists), for fostering collaboration in R Development. The objective would be to promote innovation and collaboration between: ? R Contributors. ? R Core. ? And R Community. For: ? R Development. ? ?R Contributed Documentation. ? ?R Internals Wiki. The Wikis Section could be structured in different Sub-Wikis (or Pages)...

Security updates for CentOS-5
Hello, I was wondering why there haven't seemed to be any security updates for centos-5 since Jan 6. Per https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rhel-server-errata.html there are a ton of outstanding issues. Thanks. -- Mark D. Foster <mark at foster.cc> http://mark.foster.cc/

Compiling legacy LSI megaraid drivers (Linux 2.6.11) with xen 2.0.7?
Hi all, I''ve been using Xen for a while and I am trying to install it onto a Dell Poweredge 2950. The 2850 uses a PERC4/Di raid on motherboard, which requires the LSI Legacy SCSI Raid driver to be compiled into the 2.6.11-xen0 kernel. I''ve been recompiling the kernel by: 1. Go into the linux-2.6.11-xen0 directory. Select the driver using "make ARCH=xen

Please forgive me but I am pretty new to Linux. I have Samba set up on a Server and when I go to access it from a windows workstation one, a box pops up with the resourse as \\servername\IPC$ <file://\\servername\IPC$> asking for a password. I have the right domain and my username is the same as my windows password? Why would I be getting these messages? What am I doing wrong?

Collaborative Wiki for fostering Open Innovation in R
I have found Apache JSPWiki solution, which might work and is open source: https://jspwiki.apache.org In addition, I will test xwiki, and give my insights about the tool on r-devel, as it might just be a resolutive tool for collaboration thanks to it's extensible architecture. Kind regards, Juan Telleria [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

OpenSSH 3.2.3p1 won't compile under IRIX 6.5.14
Previously 3.2.2 would not compile under Solaris, then 3.2.3 came out with a bug fix for the problem. Now 3.2.3 won't compile under IRIX 6.5.14. I've tried using both gcc 3.0.1 and the IRIX MIPSpro 7.1 compilers. I've been compiling previous versions of OpenSSH for years using these same compilers (we haven't updated the MIPSpro compiler for 3 years, and I've been using it on

Sparc?
My 12 year old wants to learn more about servers and has memorized a lot of commands like ls, chmod, du, etc. He wants to have his own domain and server on the web and I have enough Static IP's, so why not foster this interest. I have an old ultra sparc 5. Are there any CentOS versions that support Sparc? Or recommendations? I know OpenBSD does, but I am more versed in Solaris and versions

NT Server Tools
Hello! I'm the email admin for a reasonably large Exchange/NT system, trying to make a go of a Linux/SLOX replacement as an example of what can be done. Obviously, to do my job I need to run a fair bit of Windows software, and this is where Wine comes in. One of the real biggies is the NT Server Administration tools (the ones provided to run from a workstation) such as USRMGR.EXE and
