Vignettes with long compute time
Is there a way to include the compiled version of a vignette in the doc directory but mark
it to NOT be rerun by CRAN??? I think I remember that this is possible, but have forgotton
how.?? (It might even be a false memory.)

Background:? Beth Atkinson and I are splitting out many of the vignettes from the survival
package into a separate package survivalVignettes.? There are a few reasons
?1. Some vignettes use packages outside of the base + recommended set; psue...

library.dynam.unload
The survival package has a firstlib.R file that I had forgotton and just reviewed. After
deleting several bits which had a use 10 years ago during my Splus to R transition, the
only thing remaining is
.onUnload <- function(libpath)
library.dynam.unload("survival", libpath)
Does this bit of code still serve a purpose? Can I toss it?

Is mount_smbfs broken in 6.1-PRERELEASE?
Anyone know if mount_smbfs is broken in 6.1, I'm trying to run this:
"mount_smbfs -I 192.168.1.2 //nbritton@192.168.1.2/music2 /mnt/network/music/"
And then it asks for my password, I type it in, and then I get this error:
"mount_smbfs: unable to open connection: syserr = Authentication error"
I've had this same problem on another 6.1 box too... I can run this

necessarily promise fast resolution, but will try.
3. I don't understand putting legend or title options into a plot method,
since a separate call after the plot is so much more flexible. They got pushed
to the bottom of my change list, and then completely forgotton.
4. In the last few weeks issues with anova.coxph, and
predict.coxph/factors/newdata were raised. The fixes were added to Rforge last
night, and include 2 new test cases to avoid future mishaps.

From Networkmanager to self managed configuration files
Did I see an implicit "do as Red Hat says or else" there somewhere? Not appropriate. Linux is not Windows (yet). In the heat of the moment it may easily be forgotton that Linux is all about choice. We choose to run CentOS, and we choose to run it the way we see fit. We appreciate the efforts that go into the *Community* *Enterprise* OS, and if you have dealt with buggy crap like Ubuntu or Fedora, you appreciate it even more. This does not imply deference to ups...

Error in R CMD check --as-cran ?
I've been fighting a CMD check error for coxme this morning.?? I thought I had it fixed,
but instead I had forgotton --as-cran on my last test run.? So the version just submitted
to CRAN has warning messages in the log.
I think it is an issue with CRAN.?? I've sent a message to R-devel asking for help.??
Since then, as a guess, I renamed my internal "ismat" function to something else and the

Promiscuous mode
Hi Everyone,
In order to prevent DomU from entering promiscuous mode, is it just a matter of adding these 2 rules when the vif is created?
# Accept packets leaving the bridge going to the domU only if
# the destination IP for that packet matches an authorized IPv4
# address for that domU.
iptables -A FORWARD -m physdev --physdev-out vif1.0 \
--destination 216.146.46.43 -j ACCEPT

trouble with small multiples on a date variable
Hello,
I am loading a DBF file into R via JGR and am having trouble creating small
multiple histograms on a date variable. Hist() handles the variable
correctly. But I've been unable to work with lattice or ggplot2 despite
trying format() and as.POSIXct(). Dates are in the format "2010-05-15" and
the grouping variable is categorical. I'd appreciate it if someone would
provide an

Bug in TermIterator::skip_to() ?
Hi all,
I've been toying with xapian (mostly using the Python bindings) and I
think I've hit a bug in the TermIterator::skip_to() method (or maybe
in QuartzAllTermsList::skip_to()).
I've attached a c++ source file that demonstrates the issue. In short,
if you have a WritableDatabase, ask for the all-terms TermIterator
with db.allterms_begin(), and then skip_to() a word that is itself

Package issue
I've converted the bdsmatrix package (used by coxme) to the newer style of
S4, and uploaded it. It is in the pkg directory of survival, on r-forge.
I'm stuck on something that is almost certainly a namespace issue. I've
borrowed liberally from Matrix (a big help) and read the documentation, and
just upgraded to 2.8.1 - but still stuck.
All the tests work when I run them "by

Meaning of pterms in survreg object?
I am trying to model survival data with a Weibull distribution
using survreg. Units are clustered two apiece, sometimes receiving
the same treatment and sometimes opposing treatment.
