The pitfalls and unsatisfied assumptions outnumber the stars in the sky. But what else can I do, eh? Thank you for your time and forbearance. cheers, Rolf Turner

...value repeated. Should I instead pass the which.min(dist.geo) to a variable before exiting the inner (j) loop, and reference that variable in place of which.min(dist.geo) in the last line? Or is this whole approach wrongheaded? This should be elementary, I know, so I appreciate everyone's forbearance. Solutions to Exercises - Data Analysis & Graphics Using R
This message is aimed at anyone who may be using exercises from my book with John Braun for teaching purposes. I am using this channel of communication in the absence of any other obvious effective channel. I ask the forbearance of list members. Our intention is to post solutions to selected exercises (the more challenging exercises) on the web, via a link from http://wwwmaths.anu.edu.au/~johnm/r-book.html Anyone who would find this inconvenient should contact me directly. I will shortly post a provisional list on the ab...

Install C7 VM on C6 Host
I would think the same as Gordon that as long as your 64-bit VM virtualization is running properly there should be no problem running C7 on a VM running under C6. May I ask what the initial doubt was based upon? Has anybody out there had such an issue before? Cheers, Boris. Calculating Pseudo R-squared from nlme
I am fitting individual growth models using nlme (multilevel models with repeated measurements nested within the individual), and I am trying to calculate the Pseudo R-squared for the models (an overall summary of the total outcome variability explained). Singer and Willett (2003) recommend calculating Pseudo R-squared in multilevel modeling by squaring the sample correlation between observed and

reinventing the wheel? page checker
Not sure if there is an app like this yet. I want to keep tabs on my web applications and thought of using a 'page checker'/ I was thinking either running a sum on the directory or each file...but thinking a simple date check would be fine. The idea is web application, except the uploads area for photos, never has changes to its files except when I change it. However, if it gets

xl doesn't honour the parameter cpu_weight from my config file while xm does honour it
Hi, I''ve installed xen-unstable 4.2 from actual git (last commit was 4dc7dbef5400f0608321d579aebb57f933e8f707). When I start a domU with xm all is fine include the cpu_weight I configured in my domU config. When I start the domU with xl then all my domU have the default cpu_weight of 256 instead of the configured one. Was the name of cpu_weight being changed for xl command ? My domU
