draft of Comment on UCLA tech report
You may recall that there was a discussion of a technical report from the statistical consulting group at UCLA. I have a draft of a comment on that report, which you can get from http://www.burns-stat.com/pages/Flotsam/uclaRcomment_draft1.pdf I'm interested in comments: corrections, additions, deletions. Program worked in 20050930, not in 0.9.7
...m working under wine 20050930 and 20050725. I recently upgraded from 20050930 to 0.9.7 on my FreeBSD 6.0 box, and tried to run the same version that worked under the earlier wine versions. The application no longer runs at all - it gives me the following error output: -------- > wine /mnt/flotsam/winmdi_early/WINMDI.EXE err:heap:HEAP_CreateSystemHeap system heap base address 0x80000000 not available wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xffffffff at address 0x11f7:0x00000035 (thread 000a), starting debugger... err:heap:HEAP_CreateSystemHeap system heap base address 0x80000000 not a...

Xapian 1.4.0 released
...people who find use for the exception to continue using things that way. Alternatively, maybe we could find a way of configuring this behaviour. I certainly see the benefit in some situations of being able to just fling data at an indexer and not worry over-much about long terms, which are mostly flotsam anyway in a lot of applications. Anyone else have any thoughts? Now is a good time to think about things like this. (I'm not a fan of silent truncation; it's bitten me on too many other EIS in the past. Choosing it deliberately is of course another matter.) J -- James Aylett, occasio...

eigen anomaly
...ric=TRUE) to produce NaN's in some of the returned eigenvectors. This happens using SuSe 8.2 Professional and the precompiled R rpm (happens in both 1.8.1 and 1.7.1). I don't see it under Windows. To reproduce the bug: The matrix (75 by 75, about 45K) is in http://www.burns-stat.com/pages/Flotsam/eigenbugmatrix.RData Load that into R. sum(is.na(eigen(eigenbugmatrix, symmetric=TRUE)$vectors)) is non-zero (600 in my experience) when the bug is exhibited and is zero when the bug is not. It is quite sensitive to the numbers. The bug is still there with some scaling of the matrix (from abou...

Feature wish: "Virtual" POP3 folder with IMAP
Hallo, is it possible to implement a "flat folder view" for POP3 users? The problem is that POP3 only knows one folder: INBOX. Now, if a user logs in via POP3, he won't see messages that live outside the INBOX folder - this could be e.g. a *SPAM*-flagged message moved to another folder via Sieve/LDA/other mechanism. What about adding a feature `pop3_remap_folders` to virtually

Does DomainCompatibilityMode still work for NT4 domain joins in Windows 10?
Greetings! I have a brand new Windows 10 Pro box, Version 1703, Build 15063.1155, and made the two registry mods (DNSNameResolutionRequired and DomainCompatibilityMode) to enable it to join an old-style NT4 Samba domain (Version 4.3). However, I note that the dialog for joining a domain within Windows 10 now specifically says to "Join an Active Directory Domain," and no attempt to join
