I'm thoroughly confused. I've yum removed zoom, then copied the flatpak.

I think you will get more trouble because this plugin uses python2 code
and I am not sure if this is supported under EL9.
You could try the flatpak version of this plugin ...
$ flatpak remote-add --user --if-not-exists flathub

$ flatpak --user install Resynthesizer org.gimp.GIMP

Zoom....
Hi, folks,
Updated CentOS 7 the other day. Updated zoom last night. Ancient (15
yr old) USB camera, Logitech QuickCam Express.
If I run LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l2convert.so cheese, I get
video. Zoom, with or without the LD_PRELOAD - no video. I've tried
stracing zoom, and created a file /etc/ld.so.preload, with the contents
of /usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l2convert.so, and in

No, but wouldn't it be the same binaries as MS distributes? (which is
what I have).
I posted a reply to my own message in which I noted that I had later

+1 on that.
I've just installed Skype from Flatpak on my workstation. Not only does it work
out of the box, it also has...

CentOS 7, skype ceased functioning
Hi,
I have been using CentOS 7 on a laptop for a while now (about two years),
using skypeforlinux all the time.
After today's update, skype ceased to start as a service, as it used to be
configured. It fails to start manually, e.g., it does start and is listed
as a job, but it doesn't appear visible on the desktop.
In the case you know something about it, please let us all know.

Flatpak request
I am using NUT on Linux Mint with no issues. Installed from PPA.
However I have tried on 3 occasions to build from source for Solus 3 and
have had no luck.
Is there a possibility of NUT being built into a Flatpak so all
distributions can use it.
If it was available on Flathub it would be a simple and foolproof way of
installing it.
Many thanks for a great application.

Thanks, I didn't know about flatpak... even tho it's in the base repo!?
I have to admit though, after reading through the flatpak website about
it, I still don't understand how it could overcome the dependency
problem with the skypeforlinux

[fdo] Freedesktop sdk aka 'tiny base runtime' project
Hi all,
So i wanted to kick off this mailing list by trying to round up a few
things which have been discussed recently, at GUADEC, in f2f
conversations afterwards, or shot over emails between a few people. It's
been discussed for a while that we want to create a tiny base runtime
with bst. The upshot is this will homogenize the metadata used in the
build process for Flatpak, GNOME

latest skype (version 8.16.0.4) on Centos 7
Hi all!
I've finally been reduced to having to install Skype on my Linux box.
I resisted for years, but now ended up trying it.
and while the latest RPM installs just fine, it refuses to acknowledge
that I have a microphone!
In fact I have two: 1 in the USB web cam (it finds the cam), the second
in a Plantronics USB headset, which works fine but not with skype.
it is as if it doesn't

I'm not a skype user myself, so haven't tried it, but as there are many
apps that are in FlatHub, and so directly accessible for CentOs 7 (that
comes with flatpak since 7.4.1708)
Have you tried with that one ?

I recommend installing Zoom as a flatpak:
https://flathub.org/apps/details/us.zoom.Zoom
It works well and is sandboxed to some extent at least.

I recommend installing zoom from flatpak:
https://flathub.org/apps/details/us.zoom.Zoom
It will pull in the freedesktop runtime, which contains the required
libraries. No need to fiddle with LD_PRELOAD and the like.

At work, the rpm from https://www.skype.com/en/get-skype/, refused to install
with the same errors as above regarding the libs.
The Skype Flatpak from
https://flathub.org/repo/appstream/com.skype.Client.flatpakref installed just
fine and the test call showed no problems, so that's what I installed at home
too.
The Skype flatpak at home worked beautifully, that is to say for about ten
minutes, then the sound (using a Koss SB/45 headset) it started crackli...
