Weird. There seems to be quite a bit of software missing from C7.2,
gnome-applets being one of them. Or has it been moved or renamed or
otherwise obscured?

z-machine + asterisk = fun!
I was tinkering with Asterisk and the Festival text-to-speech engine, and
wrote some short Asterisk::AGI scripts to read back live weather reports.
After that, I thought I needed something more interactive to work with...
Then I had a flashback to 1996, first year university, standing in the C

(?) Mailman VERY slow with IPv6 (with work-around)
...inclination was to blame Python, but
other code executed just fine with it.
While testing I tried an strace of list_lists and found that it was
timing out on a read operation to a socket to the Avahi daemon
(/var/run/avahi-daemon/socket) while trying to resolve the link-local
IPv6 address. Having flashbacks to Sendmail stalling on DNS issues I
decided to try fixing resolution first.
As a test I put the link-local address into my /etc/hosts file with a
localized name. Running list_lists then took about 0.19 seconds "real"
time! The web interface also changed from painfully slow to it's...

3.4.0 Samba box w/ NT 4 PDC and Win 95 client
Hi guys,
Thanks for those of you whole kept reading after seeing the subject line

uninteresting reasons, I've got a situation that I wanted to run by the
list just in case there's a work around.
I have an NT 4 server that's the PDC that my new Samba box, running
3.4.0 w/ "security = domain" uses to

Problems in ezoom plugin
Hello list!
I'm writing to you because I'm experiencing two problems with the
Enhanced Zoom Desktop plugin.
1. If the mouse isn't over the current window, I can't zoom in/out. I
filled a bug on launchpad:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1349152
But I don't know if that is the right place to be, because (as far as
I know) Ubuntu developers aren't

just fyi
remember that even tho you have a filesystem etc it's always good to
have seperate partitions for stuff. eg don't put all your redologs and
mirrors on the same partition or don't put your archives on the same
partition as data.
this is not just for ocfs, but just .. common sense I think to split
stuff up.

User ID's with Special Characters??
Hello List:
I am new to this list and this is my first posting.
Presently, I am using Red Hat 9.0 and soon planning to switch over to
CentOS. I have one question. In RH user names can not contain special
characters. For example my UID is 'kbajwa' and my email address is
kbajwa at tibonline.net. Since '@' in the email address is a special
character, I can not use my email as my

Delayed_job: how to raise and log exceptions
...e in the code which is
being called (i.e. somewhere in Account#global_import_legacy_accounts), the
job just quits and does not go into my rescue clause. Am I confused that if
I have something wrapped in an begin..rescue that any exception below it
should raise up to this clause, or am I just having flashbacks of how C#
handles it? Anyway, what I need is a strategy to send a message and do
something if anything goes wrong in my delayed_job.

Recursive function for lists
Hi to all R/S gurus,
I am developping a library to export R/S objects to HTML (there was
developments of this library past year, by myself and Mathieu Ros, but we
never finished it).
For that, I wrote HTML.* functions handled by the generic method HTML.
At this step, allmost all objects exportations are possible: matrix,
atomic, data.frame, functions and even plots... but I still don't

"Special" link folders - Readonly attrib
Hi Everybody,
I've recently installed 2.2.5 on a SuSE 8.1 box and found a
discrepancy. I've scanned the whole mailing list for the problem but
only found several postings claiming it not resolving it.
In short:
Folder links consisting of a write-protected directory with an SH
(System, Hidden) "Desktop.ini" and an A (Archive) "target.lnk" don't

*very* raw script for a new email server
All,
I'm putting up a new email server, but I can't afford downtime when I
switch servers. So, I've been writing a script that will take a CentOS
install and turn it into a secure email server with Spam Assassin,
Amavis-new, ClamAV and external relay using SASL authentication.
The script is still *very* raw, and I'm relatively new to bash script
writing. I still have some
